Psicrystal Climb Skill [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-26-07, 12:22 PM I am looking at the Psicrystal and it has a Climb Skill of 14.

I can't figure out how they arrived at that score. Dex Modifier is +2 and the racial modifier is +8. So I am missing something, because the two add up to 10 in my book. Please advise.

Where did they get the 4 skill ranks from? Man, I hope I am not a total idiot for asking these questions!

But I thought a psicrystal does not get any ranks other than the ones of its master.

A psicrystal has the same skill ranks as its owner, except that it has a minimum of 4 ranks each in Spot, Listen, Move Silently, and Search. (Even if its owner has no ranks in these skills, a psicrystal has 4 ranks in each.) A psicrystal uses its own ability modifiers on skill checks.

03-27-07, 01:29 AM It is an error. There are 4 ranks unaccounted for in the creature entry (creatures are written for DM use. If you need a quick monster you want the totals not the ranks and modifiers). For your own psicrystal use the mechanics given on pages 21-24 then you will arrive at the correct skill totals for your psicrystal. Even with a climb speed of 20, they aren't really good at getting places until they can fly (or unless you share a personal movement power). Whether or not the skills listed on page 24 should also include Climb is matter of conjecture. Again, once it can fly you really aren't going to care what its Climb skill total is (unless you are dead set on you pet rock being able to pull off skill tricks).
