I was afraid it may be a bit overpowered, but I looked at similar feats for familiars and animal companions that seem to be equitable. It's easy enough to tweak simply by raising the manifester level prerequisite.

Psicrystal Evolution [Psionic]

Exposure to your power has changed your psicrystal, mutating it into a mighty manifester in its own right.

Prerequisites

Psicrystal Affinity (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/psionicFeats.htm#psicrystalAffinity), Improved Psicrystal (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/psionicFeats.htm#improvedPsicrystal), manifester level 7th.

Benefit

Your psicrystal immediately gains the benefits of the phrenic template (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/monsters/phrenicCreature.htm). It uses its own hit dice to determine special abilities, not your effective manifester level. In addition, it may use its share powers (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/classes/psion.htm#sharePowers) and channel power (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/classes/psion.htm#channelPower) abilities to share its psi-like abilities with you or manifest them through you.

I'm hesitant to say too powerful because, well, I'd love to try it out first, but it's definitely up there.

Familiars get those templates rather easily because they don't actually gain HD, but psicrystals do. Their HD are equal to your ML. Which also means that, though you can delay easily delay acquisition of the feat by increasing the ML requirement, the benefit scales over time to be just as powerful (relative to party level) as it would be if attained earlier.
This essentially adds an extra (albeit part-time and rather limited) manifester to the party.
I honestly don't see a way to make the feat reasonable, and were I DMing, I doubt I'd ever allow it.

08-15-07, 04:10 PM Drop the HD of the psicrystal by 4 on acquisition of this template and you will have a creature which is in line with (if not just slightly more powerful than) a cohort gained through the leadership feat.
