If a Psicrystals HD is equal to its' masters HD counting only levels in psion or wilder, then a psicrystal belonging to a psychic warrior is always a zero HD? This does not seem possible. Has anyone seen or heard anything to the contrary on this WotC flub? |

If a Psicrystals HD is equal to its' masters HD counting only levels in psion or wilder, then a psicrystal belonging to a psychic warrior is always a zero HD? This does not seem possible. Has anyone seen or heard anything to the contrary on this WotC flub? Scion of Coldshard's Psicrystal FAQ and Building Guide (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=698578) should be of interest to you, and will answer most of your questions. As far as official word.... When I asked CustServ, they said: Only psion and wilder levels count towards the Psicrystal's HD. However, I would look for an errata on this in the near future, and if the DM chooses, he/she could change the entry to read "counting only levels that grant an increase in manifester level." |
| kyeudo07-01-07, 02:56 PM | There are several wrong sources for the way a psicrystal gains hit dice. The correct source is on page 22, as this is where the rules governing psicrystals is set down. "Psicrystal abilities are based on the owner's level in psionic classes. Levels from other classes do not count toweard the owner's level for the purposes of psicrystal abilities" The Psicrystal monster entry is a copy and paste job from 3.0, I believe. |
| InkBlot07-01-07, 04:23 PM | The wilder didn't exist in 3.0, so it can't be just a copy/paste job. And the psicrystal abilities that you get for any psionic class level are the ones on that little table. Hitdice aren't on there. |
| kyeudo07-01-07, 05:08 PM | Oddly, you are correct. This is incredibly dumb of WotC, again. Checking Errata . . . Yep, InkBlot is right on the nose and WotC has proved the crappiness of its editing staff once again. When will they fire all the morons? Anyway, I'm just flat house ruling this for my own games. These hit dice rules make no sense, especial since Psychic Warriors can get a psicrystal. |
