heavenisme 02-13-08, 08:43 AM	So a few questions: Can a Psicrystal become a behir if your one? Does it keep it's extrordinary vision/blindsight? Does it keep immunitys, hardness, immune to negative energy? ... Construct traits? Does it get a full attack on the round that you manifest the power? Does it have str as well as the BAB and grapple special attacks like rend and rake behirs swallow etc... Is there any way to stop this super crystal?
Lycanthromancer 02-13-08, 08:53 AM	1. Yes. You can share metamorphosis with your psicrystal or use it as a touch power. It's restricted by its type (can't become outsiders etc) and by your manifester level to determine the HD of creature it can become. 2. See below. 3. It keeps its construct traits if it stays a construct since it keeps its type. If it becomes another type, it gains the benefits of that type and loses its original type and the benefits thereof. The psicrystal doesn't get to keep any extraordinary qualities not gained through its class-garnered benefits (ie, anything on the tables under the psion entry). Thus, it gets bonuses to hardness etc, but it loses its original hardness rating. 4. If it hasn't performed an action that round, it can delay its initiative to take advantage of being a gigantic monster, so yes. 5. Yes.

Does it keep it's extrordinary vision/blindsight? You also gain all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form (such as constrict, improved grab, and poison) but do not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form (such as blindsense, fast healing, regeneration, and scent) or any supernatural, psionic, or spelllike abilities. You retain all supernatural and spell-like special attacks and special qualities of your normal form, except for those requiring a body part that the new form does not have, if any. You keep all extraordinary special attacks and special qualities derived from class levels, but you lose any benefits of the racial traits of your normal form. If you have a template, special abilities it provides are likewise not retained. If the assumed form is capable of speech, you can communicate normally. You retain any manifesting ability you had in your original form. Sighted (Ex): Although it has no physical sensory organs, a psicrystal can telepathically sense its environment as well as a creature with normal vision and hearing. Darkness (even supernatural darkness) is irrelevant, as are areas of supernatural silence, though a psicrystal still can’t discern invisible or ethereal beings. A psicrystal’s sighted range is 40 feet. Does it keep immunitys, hardness, immune to negative energy? ... Construct traits? Anything that is a result of being "construct" type is lost, as it is no longer a construct when in Behir form, it is a magical beast. This means it loses ALL of the following: Construct Traits: A psicrystal has immunity to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, death effects, necromancy effects, mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects), and any effect that requires a Fortitude save unless it also works on objects or is harmless. It is not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability damage, ability drain, fatigue, exhaustion, or energy drain. It cannot heal damage, but it can be repaired. Psicrystals do not have the usual construct traits of darkvision and low-light vision Hardness is a special quality of the psicrystal base creature. It is not gained from the master's levels. So, that one, I'm not sure if it constitutes a "special quality" or if it falls under the "racial traits", given I'm pretty sure it's a direct by-product of being a construct. Does it get a full attack on the round that you manifest the power? I don't see why not. Its actions and your actions are separate. Does it have str as well as the BAB and grapple special attacks like rend and rake behirs swallow etc... BAB is not gained from metamorphosis. STR is. So whatever its BAB was before metamorphosis, that's what it is afterwards. You also gain all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form (such as constrict, improved grab, and poison) but do not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form (such as blindsense, fast healing, regeneration, and scent) or any supernatural, psionic, or spelllike abilities. Is there any way to stop this super crystal? The same way you stop a normal behir. But, a psicrystal (or psion) behir does NOT get the following stats of the behir: Can’t be tripped, darkvision 60 ft., immunity to electricity, low-light vision, scent, Breath weapon. All of those are special qualities or supernatural abilities, which are not transferred by metamorphosis. Only extraordinary special attacks.

CrimsonDeath 02-13-08, 12:09 PM	It seems counterintuitive that a creature Metamorphosed or Polymorphed into a behir could be tripped. The "can't be tripped" special quality appears to be due to the fact that it has "dozens of legs" and also has the option to slither like a snake-- seems pretty difficult to render prone. It could be argued that its immunity to tripping is a result of its movement modes. By a strict reading of the rules, you're probably right, though. Also note that an effective way to neutralize a Psicrystal Metamorphosed into a Behir is to dispel Metamorphosis.

Also, the special qualities gained as a result of having a high-level master would be kept, though the base psicrystal hardness etc wouldn't. After all, it's a benefit of class levels (though they aren't the psicrystal's class levels).
