I am posting this on the psionics board because, being that it’s a psionic class variant and all, I figured I’d get more feedback (as opposed to the classes board). So, without further ado, I give you…

Psion healer variant

This is not a discipline, but a variant “base” class if you will. That is, add the abilities given in addition to whatever the psion chooses for his discipline.

Class Skills: add Heal to the list of class skills.

Bonus feats: The psion variant does not gain any bonus feats.

Level Special
1 Mind over matter, the rights of creation
5 Burst of life/death
10 Master over the Mockery
15 Greater burst of life/death
20 The fabric of life

Mind Over Matter: By energizing the blood in a creature, you may heal or harm, as you choose. At first level the gains the ability to heal himself or others with his power points. A psion may spend 1 pp to heal 1 point of damage. The psion must touch the character in order to heal him and is considered positive energy. This is a standard action that provokes an attack of opportunity. A psion may also make a touch attack to deal damage by using negative energy. The psion may spend a number of pp in this way equal to his level + twice his charisma modifier (if positive).

The Rights of Creation: Because of the training a psion undergoes in order to gain power over the very essence of life and death, certain changes are made to his powers. You may only manifest powers with the energy types of positive, negative, or sonic. Positive energy heals living creatures and damages undead, while negative energy harms living creatures and heals undead. In order to manifest a power with a different energy type than positive, negative, or sonic, you must spend an additional 1pp/power level of the power in question. In the case of powers such as energy adaptation you are forced to spend the additional 1pp/power level in order to absorb the energy.

Burst of Life/Death: At fifth level, the psion gains the ability to create a burst of positive (life) or negative (death) energy. The psion centers the power on himself and it extends in a 10 ft radius all around him. The effect is the same as mind over matter and is limited in the same way. This is a standard action that provokes an attack of opportunity.

Master over the Mockery: If you use your mind over matter or the burst of life/death ability on an undead creature, you deal damage equal to double the amount of power points you spend OR you may heal the same amount.

Greater Burst of Life/Death: At fifteenth level the burst of life/death ability improves. It may now extend to a radius of up to 20ft.

The Fabric of Life: You attain psionic mastery over the very stuff of life and may give or take it as you choose. 1/day you may revive a creature who has died, or attempt to kill a creature who is alive. The resurrection ability functions just as the spell true resurrection. The death ability functions just as the spell power word, kill. You need not use any spell components or pay any costs to use this ability.

In Conclusion
I believe that I have created a viable psionic healer variant. However, I am unsure as to the power of this variant, and I am aware that it may be overpowered. If so, I am considering changing the maximum power level known to that of the wilder. Also, perhaps this WOULD work out best as a separate discipline, and instead of having an extra powers list, it just gets the healing abilities.

Of course, I am totally open to suggestions and criticism and expect a little bit of both.

1 pp to heal 1 point of damage? I'd just give the psion the lay on hands ability of paladins

The focus on the energy burst ability is kinda pointless. A high-level psion will be tossing around Maximized energy currents on his allies most of the time, giving them efficient healing.

Sorry, but I still like the sangherin better.

I recommend you add Touch of Health (the CPsi healing power) to more power lists (such as psion/wilder) and increase it to 1d6 or 1d8 hit points per power point spent. I prefer 1d6 with the option of a privileged energy [positive energy] feat, but either one is fine.

Upon further thought, the 1pp to heal 1hp is pretty lame (okay, useless).

So, how about changing it to 1pp to heal 1d6? That equals what most powers already allow.

I edited the first post to include the ability to control the burst radius.

With the correct Mantles the Ardent makes a decent enough healer, you don't really need this extra 'class'.

Yes, but all of the psion's energy powers still can heal damage at 1d6 per 1 pp, and do so with more effective ranges.

Yeah, but this gives them more versatility, sort of like the cleric's ability to spontaneously cast cure spells.

And yeah, I'm quite aware that this isn't a brand new idea, but I think it has a place.

Also, I think making this a discipline would be best. Instead of having an extra power list he gets the bonus abilities. Also, add autohynosis to the class skills (as well as heal).

So you're replacing bonus feats with the ability to use slightly different power ranges? That's underpowered.

Yeah, I was thinking that.

Move the fifth, tenth, and fifteenth level abilities to 3rd, 7th, and 12th level respectively, and put the bonus feats back in for 5th, 10, and 15th level. The 20th level ability is a nice cap and a lot better than a feat, so I don't think it needs to change.

That should do it then.
