Does anyone else find it weird that psionics can't duplicate any of the usual magic armor and weapons abilities? Particularly, considering how many psionic powers deal energy damage, isn't it a bit weird you can't make a flaming psionic weapon?

If the DM applies psi-magic creation supertransparency, a.k.a. the rule stating that magic and psionic item creation feats are actually the same, renamed and reflavored, you can.

This was a common houserule for a long time and was then officially stated in the Magic Item Compendium.

Considering that the psionic item section of the XPH constantly refers back to the DMG, and that there's a section about psionic equivilants of magic items, and that it's a pretty common variant to allow players to come up with new (DM approved) magic/psionic items... are you sure they can't?

I believe the Magic Item Compendium talks about Psionic to Magic (vice versa) item creation.

And it's really funny to me there's a psionic keen edge power, but no keen psionic weapons.

And soulknives have many conventional magical weapon enhancements available.

It's probably covered in the Magic Item Compendium, but I imagine they didn't bother rewriting all the standard enhancements that you could also do with Psionics. I certainly wouldn't thank them for reprinting several pages of DMG stuff in the EPH.

Sure, but none of those abilities are printed on the random psionic item tables, either. Ergo, they are not standard. It's strange that none of the common properties were given common equivalents, even though that's true of many powers/spells.

Magic Item Compendium states that someone with the correct Item Creation feats (regardless of them being Psionic or Magic) and a sufficient substitute power/spell can create the same kind of item (or enhancement) as the "other side"

Ok. So why don't psionic characters bother enough to create keen weapons or shocking weapons often enough for them to appear on treasure tables?

The random treasure tables are just there for DMs who don't want to have to bother creating their own customized tables, or creating custom treasure for each encounter. They have nothing to do with campaign setting features like how often psions create shocking keen weapons.

And I'll have to double check, but I'm pretty certain those random treasure tables in the XPH have notes on how to combine them with the standard treasure tables from the DMG.

If you used those tables it would. It is not possible to roll up a shocking keen psionic weapon.
