Psionic Buildings [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-21-07, 08:54 PM I have a Psion 10/Thallherd 8 with Craft(Architecture), Greater Fabricate, and psionic item creation feats, and I'm not afraid to use him! Give me some ideas of snazzy, practical, or funny enchantments that could be used on a small wood or stone building. My DM has already said that it's okay to craft psionic buildings with the Craft Universal Items feat... if I can pay the XP cost, or get someone else to do it for me (I'm thinking of finding a sponsor NPC to take the XP cost with the Ritual Transference feat).

So far all I've thought of is levitating guardposts (practical) and flying Gazebos of doom (funny). Surely you can do better.

I, for one, would like to see streetlights that, instead of guiding traffic with silly little lights, Time Hops the traffic instead.

I don't know, look through the powers list and pick out choices for powers that seem too illogical for what you're trying to do... then come up with a way for it to work.

Like, say, look at Cranial Deluge... now what cool (read: naughty) things can we do with that? :evillaugh

Ooh... like one of those mazes of rooms with doorways, except that the doors don't move in a straight line. One could skip a room, one could make a 90 degree turn, one could loop back to the opposite side of the same room (so you could walk straight ahead forever). That would make a somewhat interesting dungeon. Pity I'm not a DM.

I also had another (practical) suggestion... a small shrine (ex to Fharlanghn) that heals and sustains (as the Sustenance power) those who pray at it. Maybe one that manifests Escape Detection on you, if it were a shrine to Olidammara (sticking it to The Man!).

Then, just now, I had another whimsical one. A bathing room that casts fission on you so you can wash your own back... or something. Assuming you can figure out which one is the real one, anyway. Otherwise you have to both wash each other. (Either way, it's a little bit creepy)

Or a healing house with the Affinity Field always in place. Or toilets that automatically use an Energy Ray to vaporize the crap you produce. Or make a telephone booth by having a small wooden and glass building manifest Correspond for you. Beds and bedrooms that cast Dream Travel. A confessional booth with Empathy and Read Thoughts on it. Or improve my levitating guardhouse to also manifest Ubiquitous Vision, and maybe some defensive buffs. Man, I'm full of 'em today.

What sort of magical buffs would a Wizard's tower have, I wonder? Granted, that's a bit big to assemble with even Greater Fabricate, but it's an interesting point to ponder. (Can you assemble very large things with multiple uses of Fabricate? I wonder)

07-22-07, 02:36 PM 1. Doors empowered with Psionic Lock and Detect Hostile Intent - No one gets in if they are thinking about stabbing you in the back.

2. More doors empowered with Plane Shift and Genesis - Sure your house might just be one room on the material plane.. but then the inner doors open up to any number of other structures on demi-planes under your control. Vary your environments so that you can step in to your winter plane home etc. Add in some teleport doors so that you can have entrances to your place in various different cities.

3. Float on the foundation.. for that boat house you always wanted.

4. Empower one room or heck the entire structure with Mind Blank and/or Remote View Trap. This makes sure you have a private meeting area where you know noone is checking in on you.

5. Empower rooms with My Light and Detect Psionics. You can have rooms that are dark until such time as someone with a psionic aura walks into it. At that point it lights up.

6. True Creation - Make yourself a larder. Essentially you can have the room always full with fresh water, herbs, spices, and salt. It can't do anything that involves meat.. though a I think it could handle tofu ;-)

Not necessarily. The character is a Githzerai, so in theory his house could be in Limbo, with their subjective gravity and all.

I'm frankly disappointed in the thread so far. I thought it would be a fun way to introduce myself, but so far most of the good ideas have been mine. Even if you don't have good ideas, you can adapt things, and use the presentation itself to be humorous. Like... churches that weight the same as a duck, and therefore float in water. Or a room that turns a goat into a gold piece, or vice versa (PHB 112). Silly stuff like that.

How about an outhouse powered by Baleful Teleport, which rather than destroying the offending matter, teleports little bits of it to Fharlanghn-knows where? Or a toilet for training children that automatically Attractions them to sit on it and do their business? (I bet that would sell... to someone, at least. Probably nobles) Or hell, a Bend Reality-powered toilet that does... heck, I dunno, something. (The selling feature of the toilet would be the high level of the psionics involved, not necessarily what they do...) Or a greenhouse with Body Equilibrium so that you can't step on the plants.

Or how about buildings rigged with Expansion and Compression, for that wonderful Alice in Wonderland feel. Or an interrogation chamber with a constant Control Light effect that always keeps the heat on the suspect. (Heck, torture and interrogation chambers would have to be an entirely different thread--there are all kinds of inventive ways to use magic and psionics to ..."affect" people in new and interesting ways) Kitchens with Control Flame, obviously. Concert halls with Control Sound. Heck, a concert room with Read Thoughts and some kind of sound producing illusion, so that people can compose music in their head and share it without writing it down or teaching it to anyone.

I can go on. The question is, can you?

A tent with a domed, sonic-based energy wall that points outward (with frequencies in the super-sonic range) to protect inhabitants from mosquitos.

A hot-tub that manifests psionic grease for those (ahem) enchanted summer evenings.

An astral construct shaped like a sleeping gazebo (preferably immune to arrows).

A garage that manifests psionic repair damage on the vehicles inside.
