| SSj3goblin04-17-07, 12:10 PM | Do they exist? And what I'm talking about is a psionic equivalent to Warrior, Adept, Magewright, etc... npc classes. Or do you just use NPC classes with the wild talent feat? Thanks. |
| Tempest Stormwind04-17-07, 01:05 PM | You don't need psionic versions of everything. That'd be Psionic X. If a psionic NPC class is needed, it should fufill the role that general psychics tend to do in fantasy backgrounds. There's one, the Augur, in Untapped Potential. I've got several ideas for variants on it -- changing the first-level ability into a list of options that reflect different types of archetypal psionic backgrounds -- but as it stands it works well for the medium, the crone, the seer, the oracle, and similar. |
| JulesCARV04-17-07, 04:29 PM | A level 1 human commoner with Wild Talent, Up the Walls, 2 CC ranks in concentration, 13 wisdom, and 12 constitution would actually be kinda impressive as a little trick (although perhaps in the long run she'd have been better getting skill focus (profession (something)) or somesuch). Sure, with a +3 concentration modifier, attaining focus isn't easy, but it can be done. Alternatively, there's Hidden Talent I suppose. |
| Red1204-17-07, 04:42 PM | Yea spammers. I don't know tempest. Psionic X's aren't nessesarily bad, especially if your playing in a setting with only psionics and no traditional magic. Psionic X's are actually quite useful then. However, you'd only need maybe a Psionic version of the Magewright and a base psionic NPC class (a la adept). Warriors, Aristocrats, and the like do not need psionic versions. (give them hidden talent if you feel like it.) |
| awaken_D_M_golem04-20-07, 04:09 PM | Maenad Commoner 1 : Str 14 , Dex 10 , Con 8! , Int 10 , Wis 10 , Cha 11 one weapon : Spear feats : Psicrystal Affinity (mL 1 from racial psi-like ability) Hidden Talent - Vigor ... and share with psicrystal Psionic Weapon 2 flaws - Frail , Inattentive 2cc skills in Psicraft , Know(psi) , Concentration , Autohypnosis With 3pp the Maenad can Vigor 15 hit points every day , wiping out the low Con problem. Same on psicrystal - lash a smaller dagger on , Damage 1 hit point ;) That's pretty good stuff from a commoner. |
| Nifft04-21-07, 09:05 AM | Psionic Warrior: "Warrior" Psionic Commoner: "Commoner" Psionic Expert: "Expert" Psionic Aristocrat: "Aristocrat" Psionic Adept: Magewright could be adapted, but you could just multiclass between Expert and Psion. Just make sure you have at least one Expert level for every two Psion levels, and you'll be significantly weaker than a Psion of the same level, while having plenty of skill points for Knowledge, Profession and Craft. Cheers, -- N |
| Sysane04-21-07, 04:45 PM | The folks at athas.org came up with the psychic adept awhile back. Here's a link to it if you're interested: http://www.athas.org/articles/psychicadept.php |
| awaken_D_M_golem04-22-07, 02:55 PM | Consider the Soulknife. Ignoring it's obvious class feature, just compare it to the Aristocrat. Aristo starts with (1) better weapons and armor, (2) wider skill selection, (3) initially more gear. Soulknife gets (1) one step better hit die, (2) wild talent, (3) good reflex save, (4) Speed of Thought feat at 6th level. Then over the course of leveling up, the Soulknife's main feature is eventually worth 162 000 gp. That's 1/3rd more "gear" than a standard NPC. Or 1/4 more gear than a standard PC. Is the Soulknife psionic's npc class ?! And hence oh so slightly overpowered (cough) ?! |
| eggplantm04-23-07, 08:27 AM | I came up with a psionic NPC class called the Medium. Kind of like a fortune teller. The class is similar to the adept. it has low HD and gets psionic powers at a much slower progression than the psion and from a much narrower list (mostly clairvoyant stuff). Lots of detection powers though that are not on the normal list like detect evil at first level. This is the guy you bring in to find out what the strange disturbance in a house is. Do some object reading, detect magic, thoughts, evil, read thoughts, etc. Or just go to to get your fortune told before the big adventure. |
