Malcaor 08-11-07, 09:01 PM	What is the connection between psionics and crystals? Tons and tons of Psionic items are made from crystals, and there are other thigns liek Psicrystals aswell. Then there are psionic creatures made of crystal. So what's the deal?
Jaid 08-11-07, 10:09 PM	just because. i don't believe there's really much of a reason beyond the fact that when people think of psionics today they for some reason tend to think of new age stuff involving lots of crystals which are supposed to have special powers blah blah blah... (true story... my aunt once brought over a guy who gave us a rock to put on our water pipes to purify our water... riiiiiiight...)
Tempest Stormwind 08-11-07, 10:12 PM	Psionics -- real-world superstitious psionics -- have had crystal associations going back for ages, long before it was called "new age". A quick google search will provide you all you need to know, and then some. With that in mind, just look at crystals the way you'd look at glyphs, runes, and sigils for arcane magic and at holy symbols, scripture, and symbolism with divine magic. Or, for that matter, blue light from incarnum, odd syllables or written words with truenaming, dancing shadows with shadow magic, and the seals from pact magic. Just aesthetics to tie the whole thing together.

kyeudo 08-12-07, 01:37 AM	Its part of the psionics forum cycle, IMO. Once one thread on why the soulknife sucks, why complete psionic sucked, or on why psionics is associated with crystals disapears, another one is posted by a newcomer to psionics. Thankfuly the "Psionics are broken" threads seemed to have died off, just shortly after I started browsing these forums. Then again, some anti-psionics crusader is bound to show up again sometime. I just hope "sometime" is after I die of old age.

(I do the same thing, except I accept that my hatred for Planescape is irrational and/or is not shared by others, so I avoid the Deities & The Planes board, which works out well for all of us. This antipsi crusader actually goes so far as to insist that anything even remotely connected with psionics is munchkin, and isn't afraid to yell it loudly in face of math showing he's wrong. Check out Regdar's sometime.)
