| Risingdragon14501-20-08, 10:56 PM | In the forgotten realms setting psionics and magic are transparent with them both working like magical effects. with that in mind would the abilities of the occult slayer work against a psionic character? |
| Tiarn01-21-08, 12:17 AM | If transparency is in effect (as it is in Faerun) then yes they would. |
| Deekin01-21-08, 01:10 AM | No, they don't. Occult Slayer abilities only work on creatures that can cast spells. Psions don't cast spells. Besides, Occult Slayers Study to kill spellcasters. It wouldn't fit the flavor. Theoreticly, you could have a Psion Slayer PRC that required Psicraft and Know(Psi) instead, Reddopsi instead of spell turning, and get boni vs powers. |

And Spell Turning will work on psionic powers (just as reddopsi will work on spells) since in FR psionics and magic are transparent. I'd say yes it works. |
| Lycanthromancer01-22-08, 01:25 PM | boni vs powers. It's bonuses. Sorry, but that irritates me as much as rouge/rogue does. |
| Paradox-of-Life01-22-08, 07:35 PM | It's bonuses. Sorry, but that irritates me as much as rouge/rogue does. You must have a +3 boni to Truespeak checks. |

While I might agree with you about the flavor, the OP didn't ask about flavor, the question was about rules. The default rule for the interaction of psionics and magic is simple: Powers interact with spells and spells interact with powers in the same way a spell or normal spell-like ability interacts with another spell or spell-like ability. This is known as psionics-magic transparency.... Though not explicitly called out in the spell descriptions or magic item descriptions, spells, spell-like abilities, and magic items that could potentially affect psionics do affect psionics. The occult slayer has bonuses against spells and users of spells or spell-like abilities. Magic and psionics are transparent in Faerun, therefore the occult slayer's abilities would work on a psion (or wilder, etc.). Furthermore, the occult slayers abilities would work on a treant (whose animate trees ability is spell-like) which doesn't seem all that "spellcaster" to me so I'm not sure how flavor is an argument at all. |
