Have there been any clarifications on how the rage ability and psionics mix.

I have a soulknife character in my campaign with a level of barbarian and want to know what sorts of limitations he has while raging.

Any pointers to where this information might be (if it exists) would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Exactly what the rules say.

You can't concentrate while raging. None of the soulknife special abilities require concentration, although you cannot gain psionic focus while in a rage, which will matter for your feats (presumably). Note that you can still expend and maintain focus, just not gain it.

A DM could argue that it requires concentration to form or throw a mindblade, or to launch a bladestorm, or to charge a psychic strike. There's no rules supporting this claim at all, but what he says goes.

Well...

Rage (Ex)
A barbarian can fly into a rage a certain number of times per day. In a rage, a barbarian temporarily gains a +4 bonus to Strength, a +4 bonus to Constitution, and a +2 morale bonus on Will saves, but he takes a -2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase in Constitution increases the barbarian’s hit points by 2 points per level, but these hit points go away at the end of the rage when his Constitution score drops back to normal. (These extra hit points are not lost first the way temporary hit points are.) While raging, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except for Balance, Escape Artist, Intimidate, and Ride), the Concentration skill, or any abilities that require patience or concentration, nor can he cast spells or manifest any powers or activate magic or psionic items that require a command word, a spell trigger (such as a wand or djore), or spell completion (such as a scroll or power stone) to function. He can use any feat he has except Combat Expertise, item creation feats, and metamagic and metapsionic feats. A fit of rage lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3 + the character’s (newly improved) Constitution modifier. A barbarian may prematurely end his rage. At the end of the rage, the barbarian loses the rage modifiers and restrictions and becomes fatigued (-2 penalty to Strength, -2 penalty to Dexterity, can’t charge or run) for the duration of the current encounter (unless he is a 17th-level barbarian, at which point this limitation no longer applies).
A barbarian can fly into a rage only once per encounter. At 1st level he can use his rage ability once per day. At 4th level and every four levels thereafter, he can use it one additional time per day (to a maximum of six times per day at 20th level). Entering a rage takes no time itself, but a barbarian can do it only during his action, not in response to someone else’s action.

Italics for emphasis, bold added for transparency. As Tempest said, none of your soulknife class features are affected by raging, but your DM may choose to rule otherwise.

Thanks.

By the way my PHB is pre-psionics 3.5 and doesn't have any of the psionic infor in it regarding rage. Was the psionics info added to the rage description in the SRD or did you add it for your post. Just curious.

Neither. First principles.

Rage says you can't concentrate.

Manifesting psionic powers requires concentration (it says they do).

Using supernatural abilites does NOT, in general, require concentration unless it says they do.

I've been tinkering with a soulknife/barbarian combo for a while now. I'm not sure whether I should do it up as a prestige class or as a multiclass feat, but I'm sure I'll figure it out sooner or later.

No, I added it. The Expanded Psionics Handbook describes psionics-magic transparency, which basically says that psionics is the same as magic for all purposes unless noted otherwise.

Sorry, I should have specified this. You didn't say that you were using 3.0 psionics (and we assume everyone knows the difference because it's explained in the FAQ pinned to the top of the forum).

He's not using 3.0 psionics, he's saying that in his PHB, there are no mentions of how rage interacts with psionics, since it was published before psionics.

I mentioned that it doesn't need to due to good game design (that is, they consistently refer to concentration).
