If possible, how does it work? My DM's campaign is Dragonlance, so I thought I'd ask how Psionics exists in relationship to Dragonlance, since I can't find any possible mention.

so far as i understand it, dragonlance does not have psionics whatsoever. you are, of course, free to add it in as you like for your campaign, but by default there is no such thing. there aren't even psionic *dragons* in dragonlance to my knowledge, and i'm not 100% sure but i don't think i've ever even heard of one of the creatures that has so much as a psionics (sp) in their stat block as being in DL...

I assumed as much, but I hoped that it would be mentioned somewhere about options for it to be added. By DM is treating me as from another plane of existence, which does make this very interesting, but none the less, I was hoping I could find some mention of it somewhere/

No, nothing native to the world of dragon lance has any real psionic potential, if your charicter does, they sugested that ether you or one of your rescent ancestors are probably from anouther prime world.

Interestingly Cam and Rastlen's mother had what could arguably have been psionic forsight, ie she could see the future and had no training in magic.

I agree with the thing about Caramon and Raistlin's mom possibly being Psionic, but I figure the foresight ability from DMGII better represented it.

But yeah, officially, there is no psionics in Dragonlance. However, if you wanted to add it in I would suggest either making it that your character had an encounter with the Greygem at an early age (as per the Speaker's brother in Kindred Spirits) or have the powers unlocked by Chaos.

Go to the following link:

http://www.dl3e.com/fan/rules/13193.aspx

It a very good artical on psionics in Krynn. It may be what your looking for to win over your DM.

I went to your link, and all I found was --
3.4) Do psionics exist on Krynn?

According to Jamie Chambers, Sovereign Press will not be addressing psionics in Krynn one way or the other. The existence of psionics in Krynn will be left up to the DM.

Some products from AD&D 2nd edition, such as Unsung Heroes, state that psionics do not exist on Krynn. Dungeon Masters are encouraged to decide for themselves.

How will that help convince the OP's DM to integrate psionics into Dragonlance?

My bad. Wrong link. Try again. I've corrected it ;)

He has accepted me, so far, but he wants to limit Psionic influence. I think that I shall show him that article, and see how he feels about it. Especially since it hasn't been confirmed or denied, and he already has offshoots of Chaos, in the form of Halflings, he may accept this.

I don't think you should be allowed to play a kender nomad with the new first level nomad feat substitution from Mind's Eye ("Personal Space"), but other than that....

Oh gods... You would have to put that image in my head.

No, I'm an Elan Telepath, waiting to see April's article, which hopefully will be similar to March's, to see what I might be able to do. The unfortunate part is that my group keep's saying that Psionics is too powerful, yet they also say that I'm useless. I'm ignoring them for now, since my DM says that, if approved by Wizards, it must be balanced, so he has no problem with me.

"If approved by Wizards it must be balanced"? Don't make me laugh. A fair bit of stuff from Wizards is not balanced. However, Psionics is one of those things that is, at least in my opinion.

I tend to feel 'old school' about my Krynn psionics. Namely that psionics is not native to Krynn but that there are definitely some non-natives out and about who may have some abilities. For some reason the number 300 non-natives comes to mind.. so of those.. say 9 of them could have psionic abilities.

Without teachers though, I would generally limit any psionics down to wild talents. Of course this is just me and good for you for getting an Elan onto Krynn.

I was actually quite fond of Gaye, the Half-Kender Psionicist (Nomad or Telepath by XPH terms) who showed up in the Spelljammer novels.

Spelljamming's really the best way to explain a psionic character on Krynn. Planar travel is also possible, but not anywhere near as much fun to backstory.
"Welcome to Solamnia, stranger! I've never seen clothes like those before. Is that jauntily-cut tunic the fashion where you hail from?"
"Nay, publican. I bought this one from an ixixchil trader near the rings of Xyphos."
"An ixywhatnow?"
"An ixixchil. You know, seven feet tall, four arms, looks like a cross between an elf and a grasshopper?"
"Err. Well, nevermind that for now. Tell me the tale of yer journey here, stranger, an' I'll pour ye an ale on the house."
"Hmm. I am a touch parched. Well, it started when we left the crystal sphere of D'eternia. No sooner had we hit midspace than drow pirates took us by surprise..."

There's a few things in DL that would support that psionics could exist in the setting. First and foremost, are the degenerate race of mindflayers known as the Yaggol. While not nearly as potent as true flayers, the Yaggol still exhibit a small amount of psionic power.

Sadly, since my DM said it's up to him, Psionics don't exist in DL. He allows my character to exist, which is extremely fair seeing as how I encountered a deity, which might have gotten others instantly sent back. But, I'm under that deities protection (Lunitari, for those who are curious), and so far things are proceeding fine, I just can't die, or else I lose my last chance. But I have yet to go into my characters story, he mainly keeps to himself. I'm still working on it, so I have no problems. But what would a Kender do with the special power 'Personal Space'?

I don't have Krynnspace on me, but I think it explans them, as survivors of a crash.

Also...

I don't think there are many, if any left, since The Taladas trillogy. it's really made a mess of the geography and populations *sigh*

Whoo hoo! got it to work!

It's really annoying, but it appears that there is so much potential for Psionics in Dragonlance. And now that my team has stopped trying to kill me, I'm making a lot of progress as a Psion. I'm more utility than combat, what with my power selection, and my skill/stat focus, but still, we deal with others in a non violent way most of the time, so it's all good. I really want to stay an Elan, since the idea of being immortal, along with me being in good terms with the deities somewhat, makes me imagine my character lives out eternity at the end of the campaign as a near deity, helping the deities with earthly problems, and occasionaly informing his home dimension on the happenings of the other dimension.

Store things. Lots and lots of 'borrowed' things.

I assumed as much, but I have little experience with Kender's, and I can't find any story or character info on Dragonlance, at least not in great quantities.
Mindolin

03-19-07, 09:56 PM
A kender is a hyperactive, kleptomanic halfling on a sugar rush with caffeine being injected directly into its veins, with the psionic ability to store a fair amount of ill gotten goods in an extradimensional storage space that only it can get to. Do YOU want to wait around with it for a couple of hours, waiting to get back your stuff?
Mirron

Well, my DM has no clue about Psionics, at least in many ways. Most of what he learns is from me, and as such I have yet to tell him about the Mind's Eye. But I am still in the dark about the personality of some races, although I could glean some info from some sites.

You might find this handy:

Also if you find yourself with some free time, the books themselves are quite good so they're probably worth reading.

I do want to read about them, and I probably will. But I do feel sorry for my DM, throwing Psionics on him like I did. He didn't know what it was, entirely, and I managed to suprise him again when I pulled out the Psicrystal. It has helped, since he tends to pull lots of areas of darkness, even magical darkness, suprisingly early. Of course, the only event of magical darkness I can think of off hand was when we fought an avatar. That was interesting. Are avatars common, or was it a really, really unlucky sort of event?

Avatars are deffinetly not common, and you shouldn't be fighting one unless your existance is particulary dangerous to a deity. However, it's possible for a DM to use it in other circumstances...

Avatars/aspects are a little more common in Dragonlance than other game worlds. The gods interact more with the affairs of mortals than they do in Greyhawk or the Forgotten Realms.

Maybe it would be fair to say that there are the same number of interactions.. but Krynn has less gods. There is also a sense that on Toril the gods are like really really powerful Outsiders.. where as for Krynn the gods are GODS and should they choose to smite you, half the continent is going with you.

Tis true. One of the gods stole the entire freaking planet of Krynn for cripes sake! ;)

Great. And unfortunately, I think that we will have to fight all of the evil ones, and maybe even some of the good ones. The only gods that probably won't want to fight us are the neutral ones, what with Lunitari liking me, and Gidean being in charge of the neutral gods, we should be safe from neutral interference. But the evil gods will want to kill us for our interfering in things, particularly me, with my dimension warping, and the good gods might want to do that because of me as well. Exceptions, I assume, would be the gods of magic.
