I was wondering what WOTC novel have psychics such as psions, erudite, wilders, etc, as part of or the main characters. This also includers the psionics races like synads, kalashtars, maenad, half-giants, etc.

The Sell-Swords trilogy, based around Jarlaxle (drow, wizard/fighter) and Artemis Entreri (Human Fighter/Rogue/Assassin) based in Forgotten Realms has a reoccuring Drow psion (I believe) called Kimmuriel. The description of R.A. Salvatore regarding his powers is great. He usually uses a kinetic barrier (i dont believe a corresponding power is in the XPH) where a barrier envelopes a target and any blows that befall on the barrier are instead absorbed by the kinetic barrier. However, the barrier is unstable and unless the power is released into another individual, then the person who has the barrier will take all the damage from the bows it has received whilst the barrier is up.

Kimmuriel and Jarlaxle think of many interesting (read: EVIL:evillaugh ) ways to utilise this power. Salvatore also often comments about how the power of the mind is quicker than casting spells and thus Kimmuriel can often manifest a psionic power before an enemy spell caster can cast.

The Sell swords trilogy starts of with the Crystal Shard, then the Promise of the Witch King and finally Road of the Patriarch. Promise of the Witch King is probably the best fantasy novel I have EVER read. R.A. Salvatore is the God of Fantasy novels

The Dreaming Dark series by Keith Baker has two kalashtar in it. I believe one is a psion and the other is a psychic warrior.

i believe there was a power like this in 2nd edition psionics called kinetic barrier or something like that. it did just what you described.

btw, those books are great, and when kimmuriel was first introduced, 3rd edition wasn't even out yet.

i remember when he mind-controlled some woman, had her walk out of their alley, and his wizard friend cast a delayed blast fireball in her mouth, watching her head explode for sh**s and giggles.

Lisa Smedman's Realms series "House of Serpents" (3 books: Venom's Taste, Viper's Kiss, and Vanity's Brood) featured a psion as its protagonist. The first book came out about the same time as the XPH, but because there were written before 3.5 they feature 3.0 psionics (poor guy even had to use the psionic combat system). Powers used by Arvin and other characters actually were from the PsiHB (you get to see Mind Seed in action) and he even specified that he was manifesting powers not casting spells.

The Erevis Cale series from the Forgotten Realms has a Tiefling Psion supporting character in it! They are also very good to read IMO!

The "Dragon Below" series by Don Bassingthwaite has a Kalashtar psion as a main character. But again, that is Eberron.

The Dragon Below series features a kalashtar psion as one of the protagonists, as well as some mind flayers and stuff.

The Dreaming Dark series also had kalashtar in it (one was a psion, not sure about the others).

The Lost Mark series has a changeling telepath as one of the main characters as well.

All Eberron books. I know of Kimmuriel from Forgotten Realms, but that's about it.

Just to clarify, RA Salvatore's novels in the Forgotten Realms series:

Legacy Of The Drow series:
The Legacy
Starless Night
Siege Of Darkness
(but not Passage To Dawn, which is unrelated)
These feature the Drow House Oblodra, known for being crazy psions (old sourcebooks on FR Drow have rumours that they mated with illithids, which gives some credance to the Illithid Heritage nonsense of Complete Psionic).
Particularly interesting are their powers and practices, how they thrashed the traditional magic-users when magic went awry, then lost it all when the ruleset changed (1e to 2e psionics). Also features illithids, but has little about them.

Paths Of Darkness series:
Silent Blade
Servant Of The Shard (this is also The Sellswords series part 1)
(but not Spine Of The World and Sea Of Swords, which are unrelated)
Kimmuriel Oblodra the famous drow psion survived and gained his reputation above. Also has an illithid. (Again 2e psionics.)

I haven't read The Sellswords series yet. Do Kimmuriel and the other drow reappear in the later books?

Realms Of The Dragons short story anthology (various authors). Has two stories, one with a crystal dragon (very little actually about the dragon however) and another with a cerebilith (also very little about psionics).

Most of the old classic characters of FR (Elminster, the Sisters) claimed some psionic capacity when they were statted out in sourcebooks, but in the books they usually take the form of hunches and instincts or a bit of adventurer's luck.

The Crystal Shard, the first novel in the Sell Swords trilogy is based purely on Bregan D'Earth (sp) and how Jarlaxle tries to ustilise the band and Crenshinibon to expand its influence in Calimport. Unfortunately for Jarlaxle, Crenshinibon does its own manipulating.

After the Crystal Shard affair where Jarlaxle relinquishes his rule over Bregan D'Earth (sp) to Kimmuriel, Promise of the Witch King and Road of the Patriarch doesn't contain much in the way of drow or psionics but Kimmuriel makes guest appearances in Promise of the Witch King. Finally in Road of the Patriarch, Bregan D'earth make their signature "gank and bank" manuevers on an Assassin Guild led by two archmages. The Assassin guild didn't even see it coming and Kimmuriel was all over Knellict (one of the archmages) before he could even really react.

No. The Crystal Shard is the very first Drizzt novel, in what became known as the Icewind Dale trilogy. It never mentions Jarlaxle or psionics (the Crystal Shard itself is probably not a psionic artifact), and Enteri only appears briefly at the very end.

Servant Of The Shard is the one you are thinking of, wherein the Crystal Shard is finally destroyed and Jarlaxle and Enteri leave Bregan D'aerth. It is simultaneously book 3 of Paths Of Darkness and book 1 of The Sellswords.

Sorry, my bad, as BadCatMan points out, it is Servant of the Shard, not Crystal Shard I was referring to. The Sell Swords trilogy is definately a great read for fans of Jarlaxle, Entreri, Drow, Forgotten Realms and R.A. Salvatore.

Also, a lot of the old Dark Sun novels featured psionics relatively frequently.

I was, at the time, surprised by how clumsy the treatment of psionics was in some of these novels. The Tribe of One series, in particular, struck me as a poor representation of psionics and Athasians' attitudes toward the Way. It got better as time went on, especially after the revised boxed set was published, but it still seemed hamfisted to me.

Realms Of The Dragons II has the story "How Burlmarr Saved the Unseen Protector" by Kameron M. Franklin about Palarandusk (ancient gold dragon) and Burlmarr, a gnome wilder. I haven't read it, but there's a brief description in Dragon #332.

I heard somewhere that the Forgotten Realms trilogy The Twilight Giants (Ogre's Pact, The Giant Among Us, and The Titan Of Twilight) has a character who's supposed be a Half-Giant.

I haven't read, so I don't know. It could have just been a Half-Ogre.

Actually one is an inspired and one is Kalashtar. One of them is, unless I miss my guess, almost certainly a Telepath. Meanwhile the I'm not sure if she's a psion or a psychic warrior but I am sure she has the Quori Nightmare pretige class from Races of Eberron.

Well he (and all the characters in that series) is stuck in 2nd ed. Kinetic Barrier is straight out of second ed. And it was way broken. Way, way way broken.

Although we did manage to take out a very annoying psion who happened to have that up by trapping her in a resilient sphere and rolling her off a cliff.

With no one to release her absorbed energy into she went all kerflooey. Made quite a mess.

Is 2nd Edition open content, & if so can someone repost or paraphrase the power/PP Cost. I had a look at the EPIC (Spell) Version "Kinetic Control" in the Epic Level Handbook, however as this is both 3.0 & Epic I was wondering if anyone has come up with a 3.5 compliant non-epic, non-broken version ?

Bards...haw! "I will sing you to death! With my SONG!"A monk was in the Eberron book filled with a bunch of short stories. Quite a thinker, that monk. There was also a psychologically damaged young girl who was a wilder.

That's because you can do more with psionics then with magic. With magic, it's the same bland stuff. With psionics, you can make your wall of ectoplasm look like bat wings.

Monks appear in only a few one of which also feature Kimmurel, The Servant of the Shard, Cadderly's wife Diana or whatever was a monk and fought with Entrerei and didn't die...
The Yellow Silk of the Rogues series featured both a Monk and a Bard... odd. Set in FR
The Xoriat Orb featured an enlightened fist and a Ninja, they never fought even though it was a big build-up towards that. Set in Eberron.
If I am ever a WotC novelist I play on either writing stories about or sneaking into stories: A kobold monk, a drow psionic fist, a yuan-ti tainted one soulknife, and an elf psion...
if that will ever happen only whatever devine being you believe only knows.
