I just thought that I would post this up, it's something I noticed way back when complete mage came out, and I haven't seen anyone put anything up for it yet. Admittedly I didn't look too hard :P to check either so forgive me if somebody beat me to it.

The Reserve feats inside of complete mage are really great, being Supernatural abilities, that require a Standard action to activate. This normally would have no bearing on psionics, but if you have ever looked at my old Psionic Theurge of Mystra, or Any build incorporating Arcane + Psionics, then you would become aware of an interesting, yet simple use:

Schism- It grants you the ability to take any action that is purely mental. Since the Reserve feats are Supernatural abilities requiring no verbal or somatic components, they can be used judiciously to save on spells/power points expended, and even improve caster levels with the various schools they are tied too.

Hope you enjoy, hopefully it wasn't posted up ages ago when I found this lolz.

I just read your Psionic Theurge build - great work! I also took another look at Reserve feats on my multiclassed Erudite. However, I did have a question on your PT of Mystra build. I'm probably just overlooking a detail but I count 3 Ardent levels and then 10 levels of Psychic Theurge. What's giving the next 4 manifester levels to learn 9th level powers? Can't be Dweomerkeeper. Right?

Any Reserve Feat + Dweomer Of Transference Item = Yet another Recharge set-up.
4 * 7 * 2000 = 56 000 gp. and one feat slot. This compares well to a Psion's: SRD Torc + MoI feat + Azuran or Duskling race.
Or having to be a Wilder 4 or 8 + SRD Torc.
I think the reserve feats make any Psionic Recharge set-up back handedly kosher now.

Schism = yummier.

Boy, someone should actually design some psionic reserve feats...

:schemes:

Practised Manifester, first feat he took.

Practiced Manifester reads, in part: "This feat does not affect your powers per day or powers known."

I really, really dislike reserve feats. Please don't let this discourage you or take this a negative on your project. It's not that I hate them from perspective of being overpowered, but I dislike things that change the fundamental workings of a class, and I see reserve feats as the worst offender.

Ah, but it bumps up your ML, and you choose Ardent powers known based on ML, not based on a chart. :)

No worries! Not everything is for everyone - the joys of how modular 3.5 is :)

Wizard 1 with Precocious Apprentice feat and a Reserve feat.

Divine Mind 1 with Consumption Aura Power and Hidden Talent feat.

DiM expends / refocuses and Wiz "recharges" the DiM.

Divine Mind 1 wasn't so bad anyway, and now it can provide recharge at level 1.

Now the peanut gallery needs to cry : "The Divine Mind is broken!"

Meh. I've taken the initiative on the Reserve feats (on something that's actually balanced) by making 0-level Talents that you can manifest by expending your psionic focus. So long as you have 1pp left, you can manifest powers all day long. There's one called energy spark that deals 1 point of damage + 1 / 2 manifester levels you have, but otherwise works exactly like energy ray. It's not much, but you can at least do something all day (and if you multiclass with a rogue, you can use it to sneak attack).

hmm ... Interesting idea Lycanthromancer ... :plotting:

Psionics should be different.
Spells : 2nd level spell unused + "metamagic" feat = 1st level spell at-will.
Psionics : Expended Focus + "metamagic" feat = Non-augmenting power at-will.
Perhaps - limit the feat to 6 ranks in knowledge (psionics) or 1 level below maximum power level known.

Analysis - might seem to be over powered at high levels, BUT, it's not as good as any recharge set-up.

I really like the idea of using schism for reserve feats.
I was looking for a 9th level spell with the acid descriptor, but couldn't find one... Anyone knows of such a spell? Or even 8th level?
The highest I could find is 4th level Acid Orb...

The build is somewhat old now and could use a bit of updating, but I'm somewhat out of some books atm, so it will be a while before I can find anymore strong things to incorporate outside of the base build unfortunately.
