| Magon05-13-07, 04:25 PM | how do you incorperrate pisonics into teh "recharging magic" from UA? |
| Lycanthromancer05-13-07, 04:45 PM | Simple answer: you don't. As for what I'd do, I'd give the psion 3 pp per manifester level (no bonus pp), with a recharge time of 4 rounds (recharging at the end of round 4). That way, he'd have to juggle how many power points he spent every round, and couldn't uber-nova. In other words... 2nd level manifester, 6 pp Round 1: Spend 1 pp (5 left) Round 2: Spend 2 pp (3 left) Round 3: Spend 2 pp (1 left) Round 4: Can only spend 1 pp (0 left, then recharges 1 pp from the first round) |
| RadicalTaoist05-13-07, 04:56 PM | I repeat my wish for a system similar to the Tales games by Namco, where points/abilities are recovered/recharged after the encounter. That is all. |
| Lycanthromancer05-13-07, 05:02 PM | Give the psion 1/3 its base power points and 1/3 its ability bonus, then give it a 15 minute concentration-required recharge time? |

Hey RT 2 Questions. 1) Does it have to be d20 for you to like it ( if no go to 2) 2)Prayres answered Click Me (http://www.blueflamepress.com/3.html) Read the Red Personally I always just gave my Psionic players a time based on just how many points they used. We thought of it like stamina, so if you spent only a few points it was there within like 1-2 minutes, it scaled up pretty well. I think i would up with something like Time ( in Minutes) = points spent, divided by 2 ( so say 20 points spent in the encounter 10 munite recharge etc. we'd round down to make whole numbers though. Or something like that. can't remember but it worked rather well. TO |

I've been playing around with an encounter system (encounter power points, or "epp") like that ever since I picked up TOB. I like that I don't have to script 4 encounters, or the threat of 4 encounters, per day. I just wish I had a TOB-style system for rogues, too. |

| Thanatos-Omega05-13-07, 08:56 PM | Skill tricks. Complete Scoundrel. Check it. D'oh and I thought i overlooked something. well i don't own the book so can't fault me :D I haven't found anything beyond d20 that's particularly caught my fancy but I like to keep an open mind; this might be it. What I see isn't exactly Tales-style recharge, however; have you played any of the games? Not in person recently. though i have played them prior to this little project of mine. It's been so long I can't honestly say i remember every minor detail though. The inspiration did come from a load of areas though, i'd not be surprised if my design staff has played the games. anyway I've derailed this enough apologies OP. Back to issue. Lycan's answer could work, but my personal style warrants a more real time solution, since stamina is not a factor - well it is PP wise but i'm talking about the physical type- maybe looking towards HP as a basis. Or you could give me say a day or 2 and i could try to whip up an Ascendence style system for d20 though the mechanical problems would make it hard. I've personally used 2 ways and found them fulfilling. A: use the above formula of Time = Points used /2: worked really well to keep a bunch of nova happy guys in check for my last game. also rewarded my more shrewd pP players. balanced and easily used really. B: leading off Lycan maybe say that the time ='s a constant set amount all the time without variables. logically set it at say 1 -10 minutes or just say "after the encounter" however this may cause some issues. I can easily see a few bad apples saying " NOVA tastic" to this so maybe I'd go Lycan's route. divise a set amount and leave it be. I'd personally say 10-15 minutes, and only AFTER combat has ended does it start to recharge. C Go and design a feat that allows a Psionic player to recharge through some sort of effect. maybe spending a while in a trance, entering a sort of mental vault and reenergizing his powers, using a dream realm where he mentally rests outside time and wakes the same day fully charged. _ i'm partial to the latter as it's easily used in most settings, Eberron especially is perfectly fitted for that. | Lycanthromancer05-13-07, 09:03 PM | I've designed a number of things that helps a psion recharge - slowly. There's a feat that allows you to expend Y number of XP per level for X number of power points. Psychic warriors can take an additional feat to increase the ratio. I also have made a psionic version of a familiar (crystal dragons, soon to be released by Dreamscarred Press) that latches onto a willing manifester, draining a manifester level much like a PrC - though retroactively. None of the other class abilities are touched, though. One of the things the crystal dragon does is filter ambient psionic power given off by living things, and replenish your pp reserve by a small amount once or twice per hour. There are others, too. |
| MnemonicSV05-14-07, 02:36 PM | Speaking of recharging psionics... Most people overlook the fact that you can target yourself with bestow power. Why bestow power to yourself? Sure, the transfer rate is only 3(spent)/2(gained). But there are ways around that. The simplist and most obvious technique is if you are a medium-level wilder. Wild surge for +3 when bestowing power to yourself: You'll spend 3 PP, but gain 4 PP back. Psychic enervation is always a risk though, and at higher levels you will eventually always lose more than you gain in the long run due to enervation. Bestow power is, however, most useful in the hands of a Metamind (this is actually the only way I can justify the existence of this otherwise weak Prestige Class). Even if you have 0 PP, free manifesting bestow power to yourself will recharge at least some of your PP. When you gain Font of Power, lets face it, you can spend a full minute just throwing Bestow Power (and quickened versions) at yourself to replenish a huge number of PP. Admittedly these techniques require specific classes/builds, and the DM may be tempted to rule 0 it out, but it is possible. --- Now that I look back upon it, the only way for a wilder to slowly recharge using bestow power would be if he also had the Enervation Endurance feat from Complete Psionics, mathematically speaking. Even then, if the wilders level gets too high he'll still lose more than he gains... need to find that "sweet spot." |
| Lycanthromancer05-16-07, 02:26 PM | That's why you take Anarchic Initiate, Ghostbreaker, or some other manifesting PrC. You don't lose pp based on your manifester level, but on your level in wilder. |
