| Evilclone01-17-08, 03:31 AM | I was wondering if something like this is broken: Ignore Enervation By spending 2 action points you can resist the effects of psychic enervation. Prerequisite: Wild Surge +2 Benefit: When you suffer a psychic enervation you can spend 2 action points to ignore its effects, so you aren't dazed and you don't lose power points. However you don't get the effects of surging euphoria. Any thoughts? |
| Lycanthromancer01-17-08, 02:04 PM | I don't like enervation anyway. So I'm unfortunately rather ambivalent about the whole thing. But for what it's worth, it's a must-have feat for anyone playing a wilder in Eberron. |
| ReaderOfPosts01-17-08, 02:23 PM | I like it very much. It's limited enough that I don't think it's a must have as a wilder (since there are more reliable ways of dealing with it if you spend more resources), but it's certainly appealing. So I think it's balanced. I hope 4th edition removes negative effects that scale with level. |
| Evilclone01-17-08, 04:18 PM | As I know the other ways to limit or to get around the enervation are: - Postpone Enervation - Quick Recovery - Take a level in Warshaper if you're a changeling They have strengths and weaknesses, however regarding the one I posted, I feel like it's going to be an interesting feat. I think it's far to be broken, as a wilder you're going to use wild surge a lot and you don't have enough action points to deal with it everytime, especially when you start to use 2 or 3 power per round with swift powers, schism, temporal acceleration and so on. |
| AntiDjinn01-17-08, 06:04 PM | Unconditional Power also partially mitigates the effects of enervation; you are still dazed, and still loose the points, but at least you have the option to manifest a self-targeting power. This means you can mount some type of defense or D-Door to a safer location while you shake off the enervation. Assuming, of course, that you have a focus to spend when it happens. The cost of 2 action points to activate this feat is a little high. Consider that you only get a handful for each character level (unless you are also a Cannith Wand Adept). For example a 6th level Wilder has 8 action points. After spending a feat to gain this option, if she uses her action points for nothing other than Ignore Enervation, she can do this a total of 4 times before she reaches 7th level. She enervates 10% of the time when she surges for +2 ML, so chances are that is going to be way more than 4 instances of enervation in the span from 6th to 7th level. Only 4 instances will she have options, the rest of the time she will just have to suck it up. 1 action point seems more than reasonable. You don't need to balance this against what characters normally get for an action point, balance it against what 1 feat slot + 1 action point should yield. What I would do is have the power resolved as though you chose not to Wild Surge at the last second: Pay the normal cost, power is resolved normally. Even at that, once a character's action points have been expended for level, this feat will probably be traded out with Psychic Reformation and traded in again after the next level-up. |
| Evilclone01-18-08, 03:28 AM | Uhm... maybe you're right, the feat is not so useful. Even if you don't use the action points for other rolls, you can't use it many times. I like the variation you suggested too ^^ Maybe the better use of this feat is to take it along the other ones like quick recovery, postpone enervation and unconditional power, so you can use it if it's too dangerous and you must not suffer the enervation. Oh, where can I find Unconditional Power? |
| Jaid01-18-08, 01:15 PM | unconditional power is in the XPH. on a side note, iirc there are various ways to gain action points to use on a more daily basis. (i think one of the draconic prophecy feats? also a barbarian one when you rage, but that's not quite as useful ;) ) |
| Evilclone01-18-08, 03:16 PM | Eheh, I completely missed that feat, but it's a big no no. Only personal powers, expend psionic focus and 8 power points... |
| Jaid01-18-08, 08:21 PM | Eheh, I completely missed that feat, but it's a big no no. Only personal powers, expend psionic focus and 8 power points... it has it's uses. certainly, when you can't take actions at all the ability to take any sort of action is something you should expect to pay for. |
| Evilclone01-19-08, 04:42 AM | it has it's uses. certainly, when you can't take actions at all the ability to take any sort of action is something you should expect to pay for. Yes, it has its uses like every feat, but if I take it as a remedy for the enervation, there are better solutions out there. Otherwise as a recovery for enemy effects, I don't think it's worthwhile to spend a precious feat on it ^_^ |
