| seker12-11-07, 01:14 PM | hmmm, I am wondering... Would psychic reformation allow a cerebramancer (or any multi class psion/sorcerer or bard for that case) to change spells known chosen at prior levels? As it allows for powers/skills/feats to be rechosen then it should be at least possible to take the feat that lets them have an additional spell known to gain an extra spell, but what about actually rechoosing their spells? If so, this goes a long way to encouraging bards and sorcerers to take a few levels of psion (3) or wilder (4), and then level up in cerebramancer. (though sorcerers will not get 9th level spells this way pre-epic.) |

| seker12-11-07, 02:12 PM | I was figuring as much per RAW, but just wanted others opinions... though it is rather odd that it does not, as it is literrally rewiring the mind of the person. That it allows changing powers but not spells known, seems strange. (note on wizard learned spells it makes sense for it not too, as they write them in the spellbook... but spell mastered ones could be switched as it is a feat switch anyway) |

It's the reason why dispel psionics can dispel spells as well as powers. Without this rule, psionics would be almost unplayable. The psionics-magic transparency rules are laid out on page 55. It wouldn't let a wizard change the spells in his spellbook, however. So if he used psychic reformation to swap spells, then he'd no longer be able to read some of the spells in his spellbook. He'd have to make spellcraft checks, just like using a spell from a borrowed spellbook. |

I think that it's within the flavor of the power to rewrite your spells known list for spontaneous casters (sorcerer/bard) but not for wizard. A wizard's spells are in his spellbook, not his brain (so to speak). |
| MindFlayerZoidberg12-11-07, 05:55 PM | If the Cerebramancer were more like the Geomancer prestige class, which specifically states you can mix and match spellcasting mechanics to your advantage e.g. a cleric/sorcerer geomancer can spontaneously cast any divine spell, then I would say yes, but the Geomancer is also a weaker prestige class without dual progression. It would make for an interesting home brewed prestige class if you alter it a bit for psionics. |
| seker12-11-07, 07:24 PM | ahhh but given that sorcerers and bards (or other spontaneous casters) are actually sub-optimal for the cerebramancer as they have delayed aquisition of higher level spells, the idea that psychic reformation would work on spells known the same as powers known would actually encourage the combination. (as well as following the magic/psionics transparency rules from page 55... though in a magic is different campaign it would have to be house ruled to allow it, though it would still fit the fluff/flavor of the power.) Face it at 20, a sorcerer 7/psion 3/cerebramancer 10 would still only cast 8th level spells and manifest 7th level powers vs. a wizard 7/psion 3/ cerebramancer 10 that would be able to cast 9th level spells instead. So wizard is normally a better choice on the cerebramancer, though with being able to rechoose spells known for an exp cost via this power, it would make it a sought after option for some. (Not to mention bards which would only be able to get the higher level spells by branching out into the sublime chord prc. Though if done properly you can cast level 9 arcane spells {including ones from the sorcerer list} and manifest 7th level powers through a bard/psion/sublime chord/cerebramancer |
