| Syrkres04-02-07, 07:41 PM | Ok, was over on the Character Optimization Boards as I need help with my Erudite/Thrallherd (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=821106), when I saw a posting on "Psychic reformation + Expanded Knowledge = the win?!" Now obviosuly I'm sure you have all seen this before, but I guess I don't visit enough to have seen it. So my questions? (I didn't find them in the FAQ) When swaping out the feat(Expanded Knowledge) with Psychic Reformation, do you lose the known power that you learned from taking the Feat? (I would assume so, but just wanted to confirm). If yes (you do lose the power), then a way around losing it for ever would be if you have the Feat: Craft Dorje (or better yet Imprint Power Stone), you could create a PowerStone or Dorje of the power, then swap out the feat using Psychic Reformation to relearn the expanded knowledege feat and thus a new power. And then after you have the new power you just access the Powerstone or Dorje and you can relearn the power. Yes, it costs XP and gold/time to craft the items, but by the rules, it would be legit? Would it be less costly then researching a new power? |
| Tempest Stormwind04-02-07, 07:54 PM | 1) you do lose the power. 2) Why bother with Expanded Knowledge? Just reform away one of the powers you chose at level up and replace it with another. This covers about 90% of the published powers out there. |
| Khan the Destroyer04-02-07, 07:59 PM | Temepst, I'm confused at what you are suggesting. What he is suggesting is using Expanded Knowledge to learn a power, craft a Power Stone with said power, learn that power using the Erudite's ability to do so, use Psychic Reformation to swap out his Expanded Knowledge for the same feat but with a different power, and do the whole thing over again (which is legitimate by the way). What are you suggesting? |

What are you suggesting? That instead of reforming back to a level with a feat, he reforms away the power(s) he learned last level for free as a psion or erudite (he gets two free ones, recall!) and do the same thing. Cut out the middleman. |
| Khan the Destroyer04-02-07, 08:05 PM | Right. I'm having a blond moment. |
| ChinchillaofDoom04-02-07, 08:09 PM | But the Expanded Knowledge direction would let you learn discipline powers, without having to track down someone to teach it. "Cutting out the middleman" only allows powers from the general Psion/Wilder list, as normal for level up. |
| Syrkres04-02-07, 08:44 PM | Ah, hadn't thought about the Learned powers each level. That would work too. The expanded knowledge does let me get an extra power. I'm liking it... Though I now need to wait two levels before I can get Psychic Remformation(which will let me start working on my powers at level up) and then Expanded Knowledge later on. Thanks for input/feedback. |
