Hi!

Dumb question here...but...

If a power stone must be addressed before it can be used or a power contained within can be known, how do psychic warriors (without the Psicraft - a cross class skill - check) use them? I find this very confusing because the SRD even differentiates between psion/wilder and psychic warrior power stones.

Thanks in advance for any help!

That is wierd, I mean, obviously you can still have ranks in Psicraft but for a 6-Level caster to not have the skill in the first place does seem a bit odd. Paladins and Rangers don't have spellcraft so there is precedent for classes with spellcasting to not have spellcraft, but you can take away a paladin or rangers spells to only minor loss, but a Psychic Warrior without his powers is less than a fighter (OUCH!) in every way.

To my knowledge there is no other class with mid level casting progress (i.e. 6 level, Bard, Psychic Warrior, Lurk) without spellcraft (Or Psicraft). Even the Divine Mind, pretty much a Psionic Paladin, has Psicraft. In such a case, I'd give Psychic Warriors psicraft, as there is no reason a character for whom powers are a key part of his combat style would not be able to properly identify other powers in place, created by others, or in this case in a power stone.

You could aways research and develop a power that reads a stone.

Magic has Read Magic so why doesn't psionics have an Address Power Stone.

Yeah...giving Psicraft is the easiest solution. Research and developing a power like that would be a good idea, but how many PsyWars are going to want to give up a 1st level power known slot to a power that is used just a very small portion of the time.

I may just do that (give Psicraft) but I was wondering if I'm the first in the community had run into this issue or if I was missing a rule or two somewhere. Surely I can't be the first one to bring this up??? :)

yeah , well , Psionics is slightly different.

Skill Knowledge feat is in the SRD ---> linky (http://www.d20srd.org)
oops ... you'll have to look for it.

Every power on your list is useable by you.
Someone else can figure out if you can use it.
Now you don't need Psicraft , IF you trust them ... :ahem:
I'd put 2 cc ranks into Psicraft , now you got it.

Can a wizard read a scroll with 1 rank of spellcraft ?
Can a wizard read a scroll with 0 ranks of spellcraft ?
Should a wizard with 0 ranks risk reading a scroll ?

It's not that psywars can't use powerstones, it's just that they have a rather hard time of it.

As for a "read psionics" power, I'm rather happy with my homebrew power here.
Tap Repertoire
Telepathy
Level: Lurk 1, Mental Power 1, Psion/Wilder 1, Psychic Warrior 1
Display: Material
Manifesting Time: 1 swift action
Range: Touch
Target: Power stone touched, or willing psionic creature touched
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)
Power Resistance: Yes
Power Points: 1

If you manifest this power on a power stone, you successfuly address the stone without any need to make a Psicraft check (see XPH page 168).

If you manifest this power on a willing manifester, you instantly achieve mental contact (see XPH page 64). You become aware of all the powers the other manifester knows, up to the highest level of power you know yourself.

Next, you may choose one of the powers. The power must be on your class list. You understand the power without the need to make a Psicraft check.

You can attempt to manifest the chosen power even if you don't know it (and assuming you have power points left the the day). You succeed if you make a Psicraft check (DC 15 + the power's level). You retain the ability to manifest the selected power for only 1 round. If you don't manifest the power, fail the Psicraft check, or manifest a different power, you lose your chance to manifest that power fo the day.

Augment: If you pay 6 additional power points, the saving throw DC increases by 3 and you can manifest this power on an unwilling psionic creature.

That's a pretty cool power. May have to use that. :)
