07-02-07, 03:30 PM A little confused by the Psychic Whip power from Secrets of Sarlona... would it be considered a ranged weapon, or a melee weapon? (For example, for purposes of martial Strikes ^_^)

I do not have the book in front of me, but if it acts as a whip, then it is a melee weapon with reach (like a halberd, eg.).

07-03-07, 09:22 AM Well, we already talked about this, Mod, but since the power uses a ranged touch attack, it'd be a 'ranged weapon.' Also, in the power's description it has a 'range' not a 'reach.' It does let you do whipish things with it, like trip and disarm, with the appropriate bonuses, but that doesn't magically turn it into a melee weapon.

07-04-07, 12:37 AM I agree that you make ranged touch attacks--but wouldn't it nevertheless be a melee weapon due to holding it? I'd like to get more opinions as well, if anyone else would like to comment.

Nope ... it doesn't matter (really) how you hold it ... just how it's being used .. and it sounds like it's being used via a "RANGED" touch ... ergo, it's a ranged weapon/effect ... period.

Read "Flame Blade" to see a spell statted out and used as a melee weapon ..
Read "Mordenkainen's Sword" to see another variation on this ....
"Spiritual Weapon" is another ...

Check out "Produce Flame" for a spell that can do both melee and ranged and see how it's worded ...

Compare all those to your spell ... you'll probably get your answer .. (you might not like it ... but that's beside the point .. :tiphat: )
