| danzibr07-01-07, 11:39 PM | Hey all, Well, one of my players is going PsyWar, and I was looking through the PrC's in XPH... and none of them look good. Well, I should say his aim is to be able to use PsyWar powers and have decent BAB. The only two that get full BAB are Illithid Slayer and War Mind... but I don't plan on having any Illithids, and War Mind doesn't add to his manifesting class. So... basically, any suggestions for him for prestige classes? Thanks in advance! Dan |

The PsyWar is a great class to just take at all levels for a build. Don't worry, unlike the wizard or the sorcerer, this isn't a PrC-at-the-first-chance-or-suffer class. |

So they're... similar to druid, in that respect. Thanks for the good advice. Dan |

The only other major requirement is +4bab, it has some minor requirements, very minor though for a psychic warrior. It is located in Lords of Madness. Slayer is the other option, I ain't sure it is worth it. Warmind stay away from as a psychic warrior. |
| InkBlot07-01-07, 11:55 PM | With Illithid Slayer, see if you can work with your DM to change the creature it's attached to. You could be a Dragon Slayer, a Demon Slayer, a Ghost Slayer, a Goblin Slayer, a Delkyr Slayer, a Quori Slayer, a Werewolf Slayer, et cetera. Other than that, check out the Mind's Eye (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/psi). Lot's of PrC's there. There's a list of them towards the bottom of the page, but just keep in mind that anything on that list from before 4/2/2004 is 3.0. Most of it is 3.5, especialy the Psychic Weapon Master (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040827d) and the Sangehirn (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040625c). |

You can pick up some nice abilities to boost your versatility in combat-- Flanker, Capricious Step, Accelerated Action, and even Scorn Earth can help you maneuver around the battlefield and fight in unexpected ways. Transporter is also a nice boost-- planeshifting and long-distance teleportation on the cheap can be very convenient if you need that sort of thing. Elocator even has the same base attack as the Psywar and shores up your poor saves. |
| Fleem07-02-07, 12:16 PM | Slightly off-topic, but I think Slayer (the SRD version of Illithid slayer) is a better option for Psions than PsyWar. You'll need to wait until 8th level, at which point you trade one feat and one caster level (plus a few skill points) for: d8 hit die proficiency with armor and martial weapons full BAB progression different skill options, plus more skill points eventual immunity to scrying and all mind-affecting spells some likely meaningless favored enemy stuff (must pick a psionic race) Not that enticing for a psychic warrior, but definitely a tempting package for any psion who can stomach a single caster level loss. |
| Vharuck07-02-07, 04:47 PM | As noted above, don't go with War Mind. From the description and the pitcure and the flavor, it seems to be a great PsyWar PrC. It isn't for one reason: it's meant to be a PrC that makes the character more like a PsyWar later in levels. At level ten, a bonus feat and one 1st level power (at manifester level 1) don't make the PsyWar a very good multiclass option. However, Warmind allows a much quicker access to high level PsyWar powers and other cool tricks, allowing non-PsyWars to effectively dip without suffering since the only psionic requirements are 1 power point and ranks in Knowledge (psionics). Characters who should consider this PrC are usually of a psionic race, the soulknife class, or ones who have taken the Wild Talent feat (most likely in planning to go into this PrC). Also, avoid the Pyrokineticist. It is cool, but not recommended at all for manifesters. You could learn better tricks than what it gives you with your full manifester level progression of the PsyWar class. This PrC is also for those with a power point that's doing nothing. |
| The_Shaman07-03-07, 03:54 AM | As said before, the slayer can have any psionic race as a nemesis. Apart from that, I am most impressed by the Sanctified Mind (seriously, a good will save never hurts so iron will is not a bad prerequisite) and the Psychic weapon master. Psywarrior 14/SMind 6 gets most of the bonus feats psywars do, and some nifty things from the SMind side. PWM is, well, quite nice too, especially with some weapons. |
| Bacris07-03-07, 08:19 AM | What books/sources are allowed? I can think of a couple good PsyWar PrCs in some 3rd party products... |

I REALLY like the Sanctified Mind also. Its one of those odd 6-lvl classes, but completely worth it, you get 4-5/6 manifesting I think plus full BAB good will saves and some pretty sweet class abilities. Alternatively, Rn 2/PsyWar 8/Slayer 10 can be an ultimate anti-something build. My DM let me re-vamp slayer to be an anti-Demon PRC. Swapped out brain nausea and hte capstone ability for Fire Resistance 10, and the Censure Demons class feature of the Knight of the Holy Chalice. If you don't want to two weapon fight, take only Rn1 and go PsyWar 9. It might be a good plan to pick up Practiced Manifester also... |
| danzibr07-03-07, 08:53 PM | What books/sources are allowed? I can think of a couple good PsyWar PrCs in some 3rd party products... Well, I should start by saying I'm letting him use Int instead of Wis for caster stat and he's a Tiefling with two natural claw attacks for his size (because I think Tiefling is underpriced). Also, he plans to go grappling/poison later. With all that said, I have (as of now), RoS, RotD, RoD, LM, HoH, BoVD, and that's pretty much it. Well, the core books and XPH and DMGII, but those won't help much (considering SRD). However, I should soon be getting RotW, CAdv, and... well, those two. To my kowledge he wants a build that can buff his natural claws and use poison. He doesn't care too much about manifesting if he can meet these two. Oh, and he likes to grapple (already has Improved Grapple and that one first level power that helps grappling). Dan |
