pyro fire bolt [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-13-08, 08:33 PM hey, I just leveled my pryo and got the fire bolt.
the text says you get a 1d6/class level, no cap. should that be pyro level or character level? I assume pyro level but wanted a second opinion.
can anyone help me out?:confused:

If a class feature refers to your "class level", it's always talking about your level in the class that granted the ability. So, in this case, it would be your Pyrokineticist level.

Usually, if an ability is based on your character level, it'll say "character level" or "hit dice".

I've forgotten what it usually means if it just says "level"; I suspect that's supposed to be class level too.

It's by context. If a class description just says "level", it's talking about levels in that class.

03-22-08, 11:34 AM My very first post, and I think I might already know the answer.

I was using the ability last night against guys with SR (eberron campaign). Does it use standard Psi-like ability (looking at spell-like ability since it doesn't say specifically in the actually entry) where you add your total HD to your d20? Or would it just be Pyro HD?

Thought I'd post the question here instead of trying to start a new one.

XPH p. 65: "In all other ways, a psi-like ability functions just like a power." (Manifester level is not one of the listed ways that psi-like abilities are different from powers.)

So, the Pyrokineticist's psi-like abilities should have a manifester level equal to the character's Pyrokineticist level. Which sucks at high levels, when everyone and his mother has power resistance. (Or fire resistance. Or fire immunity. Or occasionally even magic immunity.)

03-22-08, 02:11 PM Thanks. That makes sense and all. I still like the ability (I'm mainly a fighter, so it's a nice ranged packup).
