I've taken a level as a Pyrokineticist, with previous levels as a Psychic Warrior (half giant). It looks like fun to play as, but I'm wondering what others' opinions are with the class.

Any advice may also be helpful.

The whole pyromaniac role playing aspect is interesting. I don't know if the abilities quite make up for the lack of manifesting levels, but it does look fun. Sure, there are lots of save or die spells, but killing someone by boiling their blood with Heat Death is pretty awesome.

I am actually adding these class levels to a Devil in order to make a Balrog. The fire lash and conflagration ability works perfectly.

Psychic Warriors depend on their manifester level far less than a Psion does. What will hurt most is the lose of power points. Try to get a few cognizance crystals, or maybe a wilder cohort who knows bestow power.

Also, the last two levels of Pyro are rubbish (but it'll be a while before you cross that bridge, of course).

When multiclass two 3/4 BAB, in order to maximize your BAB you'll need to take each class in multiples of 4. For example, psywar8/pyro8 has +12 BAB while pswar6/pyro10 has +11 BAB. This is just general advice. It obviously doesn't apply if BAB isn't a priority.

Won't it be awhile until he burns that bridge? What with being a pyro and all...

Anyway, I always thought of the pyro as something more for someone who was less manifester, more back-up meat shield. The loss of all those MLs really hurts power capabilities.

More of a striker than a meatshield. Pyros get free ranged attacks, like the Warlock, wich allows them to put the damage where it's needed. Pyros don't seem to benefit much from standing in front of the party and waiting for enemies to come to him. They also don't have any particularly way to defend against melee attacks (free energy retort would have been nice), or a ton of HP.

I know someone that since seeing it has had more than 1/2 of the characters he has ever made into a pyrokineticist. its getting kind of old. he as also made a bunch into a mindblade also getting kind of old.

I like the class, though the burning down a building just to watch it burn isn't the type of pyro I'd enjoy playing usually.

There's a lot of cool stuff with the class, what with heat death, the ranged blasts, setting yourself on fire, etc. I think it could be lots of fun to play.

The pre-req specifies a "structure of any size", so while you could burn down the Tal Mahal, you could also get away with burning down an abandoned house, or a tool shed, or a barn, or your little sister's doll house...

But... but Barbie and Ken live there!
(In D&D, Barbie is a sorceress with the half-celestial template and Ken is a paladin of Pelor.)

In all seriousness, I've only ever played a pyro as a recyclable NPC, though the character was originally designed as a PC for an evil-oriented Forgotten Realms campaign that ended up not happening. I had a lot of fun with him. In twisty enclosed spaces and with a sneaky partner, he can be very effective. He was best at driving the PCs into dangers (ambushes from his sneaky partner, for example.) He had pretty good survivability, too. (He was a psywar/pyro, so he had some ability to buff himself.)

There's only one Pyro build on the PsyWar build guide, and for a good reason. Yawn.

One of the 4th Edition ideas is kinda like Initiator Level for ToB manuevers.
Pyro strikes me as something that could be converted to sorta like that.
I'm being vague, because I don't know what the answer is.
Tashalatora -esque treatment of 1 level of Pyro,
plus one feat,
Equals 19 levels of Class X / 1 level of Pyro, down one feat, up all the class abiities of Pyro.
Gain one level of class abilities per level max, via the feat.

What do you think? Overpowered, too automatic, still weak, still yawny ???

This looks like good material for some motivational posters.
