DM_Kelaos 12-24-07, 06:46 PM	Alright, I've got two (hopefully quick) questions: 1) Can you take the Psicrystal Affinity feat more than once? I'm asking this because the Elemental Envoy feat (Complete Psionics, p 52) says "Benefit: When you are able to acquire a new psicrsytal..." so it sounds like it MAY be possible to obtain multiple psicrystals. 2) Psions choose a discipline at first level. Now, for example I chose Egoist (Psychometabolism). The power "Levitate, Psionic" is listed as a 2nd-Level Psion/Wilder Power, BUT it's ALSO under the Nomad (Psychoportation) discipline. Since you can't take powers from other disciplines (except with the Expanded Knowledge feat) can I still take Levitate, Psionic? Thanks for the help!

If you want a new psicrystal, try Improved psicrystal, but you still get only ONE (though improved). 2) As a common psion power, only YOU can levitate If you was a nomad and took the nomad version, you could make other party members levitate.

Another question now: Do you create your psicrystal? Since it simply says "obtain". And If your psicrystal is destroyed can you create (or find, or whatever) a new one? If so, would it act like the Wizard's familiar, and therefore making you wait a year? Thanks again!

The_Mess 12-24-07, 09:33 PM	There is no official answer for "What happens if my psicrystal is destroyed?" This has been a complaint for years! The simple answer is follow the same rules as the Wizard's familiar does. Personally, I don't like that, though. (I don't like it for the Wizard either.) Forcing a character to spend a year without using a feat/class feature is excessive. I would suggest: Make them wait a week to recover psychicly from the loss of their personality fragment, then they have to spend at least 500 GP to purchase a new chunk of crystal, and then spend 24 hours meditating over it to re-imprint it.

There are hints in the XPH that psicrystals are formed out of ectoplasm, like an astral construct, crystal shard, or a bacon-lettuce-tomato-samwich put together with psionic major creation. In my games, I say you can make a new one from ectoplasm (solidified thoughts) a week after your old one is destroyed. Until then, you take a penalty equal to the bonus the psicrystal used to give you. E.g., if you had a liar psicrystal then you'd take a -3 penalty to bluff until a week has passed. It keeps a player from being too incautious with his or her psicrystal, without turning their feat into a waste. The crystal will be back in time for the next adventure.
jbsaff 12-26-07, 01:53 PM	Untapped Potential from Dreamscarred Press has a re-write of Psicrystal Affinity that gives specific instructions on what to do to regain your psicrystal (wait 24hrs, expend 100xp, iirc). Just one of the many reasons DSP rocks. (yes, you could say I'm a fan)
