05-29-07, 11:43 PM Common sense? Why forego learning a power you could be using when you can learn it now, use it, and later augment it and keep using it? Give that the most useful powers can be augmented, there is no advantage to holding a slot to spend it on higher level powers. If you are ever unhappy with a choice it only costs a minor amount of XP to change it out with Psychic Reformation, but holding a slot is not only not allowed by the rules, it is also not a particularly good idea. The first level power Crystal Shard can be manifest at 1, 3, 5, etc. points. The 3rd level Crisis of Breath can be manifest for less than 5. If you held all your slots to get 3rd level or higher powers then what is your plan when you have 4 points to spend?

It doesn't say she unlocks the potential for a new power, which may be filled at some later time. It says when she gains an even level, she gains a new power.

The question was for a 10th level character being retrained. In that campaign, I found that I was using 4th level powers almost exclusively and rarely ever using more than two or three powers of the lesser level powers.
