| heridfel07-31-07, 10:00 PM | Hello, I've been looking at all the WotC books that I could find, as well as the SRD, to try to determine what prestige class would work best for a fighter/psion. I always like my magic users to be less easily broken, and the same goes for my psions. Now, I like the mechanics of the slayer class a lot. I think they did a good job of making it generic (one benefit of illithids being protected content, I suppose), and it seems like it would be fun to play. However, I like the flavor of the quori mindhunter a lot. Assuming that the psion is single class when he tries to defeat the quori, it takes a decent amount of strategy and just feels cool. I was thinking that I could try to combine the flavor of the quori mindhunter with the mechanics of the slayer (as well as removing the two bits that are still rather illithid specific). Tell me what you think of the changes below. The default template for the mechanics is the slayer, and everything is assumed to be as per that class unless stated otherwise. Requirements: Add: Alignment: Any non-evil Skills: Knowledge (the planes) 5 ranks Knowledge (dungeoneering) 5 ranks (increased to match the other skill) Special: Must lure and defeat a quori spirit in a dreamstate combat (per Quori Mindhunter) Change: The favored enemy is the quori. You can detect a quori within 60 feet, even if it is possessing someone (though you still do not know exactly where the quori is). At level 2, replace brain nausea with sleepless mind (per Quori Mindhunter). At level 10, replace blast feedback with dream travel (per Quori Mindhunter, except that it may only be used once per week and only one other person may come with you, rather than one per level). Thoughts? One thing that's interesting about this change is that the character can still be possessed by a quori up until class level 9 (and even after that if the character loses his psionic focus). I think it'd make the mindhunters even more paranoid than they already are. If that doesn't work, you could consider replacing lucid barrier with immunity to possession. I sort of like the risk, myself. |

| angellis_ater08-01-07, 02:44 AM | Yeah, I'd agree on changing the Knowledge Dungeoneering skill prerequisite, considering where they are most often encountered. I'd also take immunity to possession simply because there already IS a quori spirit inside them, only that they are in control of it. |
| CrimsonDeath08-01-07, 03:57 AM | Are the Quori Outsiders? If so, Knowledge (The Planes) may be appropriate. |
| heridfel08-01-07, 07:35 AM | It probably would be better fitting the quori to do Knowledge (psionics) rather than Knowledge (dungeoneering), but I was going in with the assumption that a psionic character was more likely to have maxed out Knowledge (psionics) already, meaning that there was no opportunity cost to enter this class (besides the Track feat). I did add a prerequisite for Knowledge (the planes) first thing, because quori are usually encountered off-plane, unless they're possessing someone. And yeah, you're probably right about the immunity to possession. I think I'll add that at first level, and gain the favored enemy at level 4 (increasing to +4 at level 7 and +6 at level 10). So, to sum up the edits: Remove knowledge (dungeoneering) prerequisite. Replace knowledge (dungeoneering) with knowledge (the planes) in class skills. Reduce favored enemy by 2. Grant immunity to possession at first level. |
