Next weekend my party will have to deal with callers in the darkness. The party consists of, a half giant 7 level monk 5 level reaping mauler 1 level fist of zuoken and a human 9 level psychic warrior 3rd level colorless adept, and a human 11 level Erudite a 2nd level Incarnate (which I play),. We also have along a 6th level astral construct as a walking trap rock and extra muscle.
Actually we have to deal with three callers in the darkness. I think we are in trouble. The battle begins this weekend. I suspect the Dm has lots of nasty things for us this weekend.

I have a couple of questions. Will the Callers in the darkness be able to hurt the 6th level astral construct?

I am planning to use the Wall of ectoplasm power to create a Hemisphere with a floor. Can one do this with a wall of ectoplasm power? I read that you can create a hemisphere and a sphere. Can you create a Hemisphere with a floor? I am hoping this will give us a little time to buff up before facing the callers in the darkness. I think the Wall can block ethereal creatures. Can the Callers in the darkness damage the Hemisphere of Ectoplasm and batter their way in?

Thanks any help would be appreciated.

I don't believe Ectoplasm wil stop ethereal... it isn't Force after all...

If you want to do something like that, I'd suggest getting ahold of either dimensional anchor or psionic dimensional anchor. You can then cast/manifest it on the floor and on the hemispherical walls, and the callers won't be able to get through. Or, you could try to convince your DM that mage armor and inertial armor allow you to make grapple checks against ethereal foes, since they're force effects, then find a way to cast mage armor on some astral constructs (or just find a way to give the constructs the concussion blast ability and have them blast away).

Maybe psionic banishment?

Really, psionics gets hosed against undead.

[edit] Oh, and anything with the [Force] descriptor will come in handy. Using telekinetic force, telekinetic thrust, and telekinetic maneuver might just save your bacon. Mmm...bacon...

Anyway, a couple of constructs with concussion blast, a psicrystal with a solicited telekinetic maneuver, and you with one too (maybe a schism with a co-opt concentration'd telekinetic maneuver) and you could have all three grappled, bull-rushed, etc.

You can not use wall of ectoplasm make a hemisphere with a floor. You can only make a vertical wall, or a hemisphere. You can't even knock the vertical wall down to make a floor, since the power specificaly states that a wall of ectoplasm is immovable.

A wall of ectoplasm blocks ethereal creature, and material creatures, but not incorporeal creatures. The Caller can simply float through it. If it wanted to, a Caller In The Darkness could batter it's way through the wall in about 3 or 4 rounds. It could also just float around the wall through the floor (this is specifically mentioned in the power description).

Yes. See below.

Wall of ectoplasm specifically states that it blocks ethereal creatures.

However, Callers In The Darkness are not ethereal! They're only incoporeal! There is a big difference between the two, and incorporeal creatures are a lot easier to deal with than ethereal creatures.

Any spell, power, magic weapon, or supernatural ability has a 50% chance to work on an incorporeal creature. Just think of it as taking half-damage from everything.

A 6th level astral construct can damage a Caller In The Darkness, because it's natural attacks are treated as magic weapons. The natural weapons of any creature with DR/magic are treated as magic weapons (Monster Manual, p307). I would suggest crafting the astral construct with either Heavy Deflection (to avoid the Caller's touch attack), Extra Attack (for another chance to hit), or Power Attack and Improved Slam Attack (to do more damage when it does hit).

Ink blot,
Thanks for the advice and clarifications. I see that I will have to come up with something else.

oil of ghost touch weapons. Or hire a cleric.

There are two powers in Complete Psionic which would help; power weapon and ethereal volley. They convert melee/thrown weapons and projectiles (respectively) into force effects, allowing them to damage incorporeal foes without the misschance. These powers are rather low level, so picking up some power stones of them shouldn't even put a dent in your character's wallet.
