As I read the Independant Research rules (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/psionicPowersOverview.htm#independentRes earch), you're limited to researching new powers.
Yet, I'm in a situation where I know a power (Body Adjustment (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/bodyAdjustment.htm)), and would like to research a mere augment (to be able to use this power on someone else).
Now, I'm still waiting on the ruling from my DM, but would like to know what you think about it. Should the augment be counted as a whole new power ? should I hope on a discount on time and / or XP cost ? Should I hope on a bonus on the Psicraft check ?

Thank you for your thoughts.

PS : I know it won't be very efficient, so that's not the point, please. FYI, we're in a party where we lack a healer, so anything to offset this is good.

Discounts and whatnot are, of course, between you and your DM. FWIW, I'd say a discount was reasonable. If the resulting power was 3rd level, why not knock off the two levels you already know? Having said that....

Why aren't you using Empathic Transfer? It's a much better power for healing than Body Adjustment. Paired with Vigor it's even better. I think there's some cheese with using your psicrystal, too, but I don't mess with that.

You may wanna read this article about augmentation research (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=194200).

Though not the intended recipient of that elucidation, I'd still like to thank you for that link. :D

Yes indeed, thank you for the link.
I'll probably point it to my DM if he has a hard time coming up with his own call, but in my own case, I don't like it : twice the pp to manifest Body adjustment on someone else !
