| Subtle Knife10-30-07, 02:59 PM | I was considering a new psionic variant for the Ring of Telekinesis, one that had two basic effects: 1) It gives you access to a variety of force-based powers, which you can use at will through the expenditure of power points at the users' manifester level (similar to Runestaves in MIC). 2) It contains a modified cognizance crystal, from which power points can be used to generate these effects, and which regenerate at a finite rate. Here is what I've come up with! I need advise on pricing; so far, considering a few limitation enforced on it, I thought the powers were worth 33200gp (pricing as per spells in a runestaff; kineticist-restricted powers at half-price); the cognizance crystal activity I priced as a normal 15pp cognizance crystal (considering the restriction on how the points may be used). Does this sound reasonable? Ring of Telekinesis Price (Item Level): 97200gp (15th) Body Slot: Ring Manifester Level: 15th Aura: Strong (DC 21) Psychokinesis Activation: As power used. Weight: Negligible On initial examination, this ring appear to be composed of metal segments bound together by bands of pure, invisible force; further examination shows this ring to be composed of mithral segments linked by highly-translucent psionically-resonant crystal. The psionically-resonant crystal of this ring acts as a sophisticated form of cognizance crystal with a maximum of 15 power points; these can only be used to manifest the powers resident in the ring, and regenerate at dawn each day. The bearer can decide to manifest the rings' various powers by expending power points from her own reserve or from the ring itself. A ring of telekinesis allows a psionic manifester access to the following powers at the wearers' manifester level, as long as 1) they are on that manifesters' list of powers available to learn, 2) the manifester could normally expend enough power points to manifest that power himself. Powers may be augmented normally to the limits of the wearers' manifester level. The list of powers generally available include: Deflection Field Far Hand Skate Concussion Blast Psionic Levitate Telekinetic Force Telekinetic Thrust Telekinetic Maneuver Telekinetic Buffer Overland Flight On the hand of a kineticist, the following additional powers may be similarly utilized: Control Object Telekinetic Boomerang Psionic Telekinetic Sphere Prerequisites: Forge Ring, Deflection Field, Far Hand, Skate, Concussion Blast, Psionic Levitate, Telekinetic Force, Telekinetic Thrust, Telekinetic Maneuver, Telekinetic Buffer, Overland Flight, Control Object, Telekinetic Boomerang, Psionic Telekinetic Sphere Cost to Create: 48600gp, 3888XP, 98 days I am also considering a lesser version, with only 9 power points and lacking the following powers: Psionic Telekinetic Sphere, Overland Flight; price of 37400gp. Thoughts? SK |

So say it works as a psicrown, but regenerates it's power points and occupies the ring slot, and you won't have to write that all out. Power Trigger: This is the activation method for dorjes and psicrowns. It requires the special knowledge of power manifestation that a character of the appropriate class would know, and the formation of the appropriate command thought. If a power is on a character’s power list, the character knows how to use a power trigger item that stores that power. ... Activation: ... When activating a psicrown, the user spends power points contained in the psicrown on any one of the psicrown’s powers. Powers activated from a psicrown can be augmented with additional power points from the psicrown itself, so long as the total number of power points spent does not exceed the user’s manifester level. The user can’t manifest a power from a psicrown using his own power points. Regenerating resources, like power points, per hour is avoided because it makes accounting for them much more difficult. When you have per-hour-regen it's no longer say "you arrive at the dungeon entrance just as the sun starts to sink below the horizon." Players will want to, and have a right to, know exactly how many hours the journey took. Was it 6 hours? Was it 8 hours? The party got up at dawn but did they break camp and leave in less than an hour? What about stopping for lunch? What time of year is it exactly? These kinds of questions and problems can be entirely avoided by simply making the item recharge per-day instead. |
| Subtle Knife10-31-07, 12:15 PM | Actually, you cannot manifest psicrown powers using your personal reserve of power points, only those that are contained in the pool within the psicrown itself. So no, it doesn't work exactly like a psicrown. As for the rate of regeneration, I would be comfortable using a daily regeneration scheme; I'll amend it thusly. Any more input? SK |
| InkBlot10-31-07, 03:27 PM | OK, so it has two major differences; it regenerates pp and you can use your own pp. Until you pointed it out, I didn't see the part about being able to use your own power points for the ring. |
