Not by WotC, no. CustServ's ruling was "he can get another one" with no rules on how to do it.

This was answered in the FAQ at the top of the forum.

Ask your DM if you can raise dead on it like a familiar. Yea, it's super silly. While your at it, have a rock funeral first. Ask the party to say a few words each about old Chip.

Customer service's response of "he can get another one" basically amounts to: "Ask your DM for his houserule." There are other (very rare) instances when you might loose the ability to exercise the benefit of a feat. The length of time and effort required to regain the benefit of Psicrystal Affinity should match how lost feats are regained in your game.

Yes, using reformation to roll the feat out and then in again should get you a new pet rock, but won't get the same one back. Even if you select the same personality type you are getting a crystal as though you just took the feat for the first time, not as though you just resurrected chip.

Tip: If you have your DM roleplay the personality of your pet rock, if it dies he will definitely want to get it back to you pronto. Think of the relationship between character and crystal as being full of banter like Vampire Hunter D talking to the hand. If the player controls what the crystal does but the DM controls the banter (like a audio-only DMPC) then it gives the DM a voice in the party. If it gets crushed the DM has to can the cartoon voice, tiny conscience, snide heckling, or however he was roleplaying the crystal. This is very distressing for a DM so he certainly won't make you wait a year to get your pet rock back.

So, what a class ability is the same as taking a feat now?

I don't agree with your DM. The cost would be that to make a new psicystal. Then the time to make it as well. You won't get one in a day or a week, but you can get one back.

In 3.5, psicrystals are gained through the Psicrystal Affinity feat, not a class feature. There is no cost to make one like there was in 3.0; you take the feat and you get the rock.

Assuming he uses the supplement: (while it is a good on), but yeah technically you should get one back in 24 hours with mediatation at no cost similar to Druid animal companion.

Couldn't this be equated to something like the Ancestral Weapon feat?
You take the feat and you get the weapon...
But if the weapon is destroyed it doesn't just reappear right?

I don't think it should be gone forever but I wouldn't expect to have it just reappear the next morning either.

Which is why DM's should try to be consistent in dealing with these issues. Decide how you will deal with the situation of a character being denied the benefit of a feat when they still meet the prereqs and still have the feat. Your answer to this question tells how they get either a pet rock or ancestral weapon back into service.

For me: It takes place in the story. If you break your ancestral katana then you must go to a master swordsmith to have it reforged. No specific time or XP requirement, but you have to actually go do it. If your psicrystal is destroyed I treat it like the death of a follower (it was sentient and had a personality) at some point when it works into the storyline the replacement character joins up. The strength of the psion's grief calls a new crystal into being and seeds it with a personality fragment. How long will you be kept waiting? Depends on whether the mishap was just bad luck or if you were doing something stupid with your katana or crystal that caused it to be destroyed. In either case, ancestors or the new crystal may have a bone to pick with you if it was your fault.

at least he didnt require a fort save and xp loss as well.

I wont delve into my views of psicrystals but lets just say that I think its give a little to much for a feat. I much rather see it be a class ability and be handled similar to a familiar.
