My PC is about to hit 12th and am contemplating what my feat would be.

Is it just me or does Schism seem to be a better investment?? Taking Expanded Knowledge, of course.

No focus expenditure, PP cost difference is 1 (and initial only!) etc etc..

Any of you come across this minor dilemma??

Yeah my Psion was a telepath so schism was a given. The only benefit I can see to quicken is you can do it on the fly. So if you get surprised you can start quickening powers right away, thou Temporal Acceleration can take care of that.

Also make sure you ask you DM how he wants to rule psionic focus. Can both minds have one? If not can you schism regain the focus both of you?

Anytime you're going against power/spell resistance, it's a problem. And it requires the initial round investment - Quicken can be used whenever it's needed. It's also subject to dispel psionics.

They both have their uses :)

Hm.. thanks, all.

So, basically... with prep time - Schism.

Without - Quicken.

I think they actually work best together. Quicken the Schism on the first round, then just use Schism to manifest your second power on the rounds after that. :D

Wait... Can't you use the Schism to manifest a power on the same round that you manifest Schism? I mean, once you finish the standard action required to manifest it, you're under its effects, and the power states that, each round, you get a standard action that can be used to take a nonphysical standard action at -6 manifester level.

Yes, however with quickened power you get 2 powers in the first round, with schism you still result with 1(schism itself shouldn't be counted). Quickened Schism is actually one of the most intelligent moves you can make in the first round of combat.

No, as per the power description:

Your second mind takes its first action on you turn in the round after schism is manifested.

Phaedrus' Quicken/Schism combo is a quite good one. Something that might be cheaper and useful earlier is Schism + Link Power.

As has been said, Schism really isn't that useful against creatures with SR. The best uses are probably to probe defenses (testing whether they have SR, are immune to Mind-Effecting spells, are vulnerable to sonic, etc.), to do emergency buffs like Vigor, to assume concentration for one of your other powers (making it the equivalent of Psi-Crystal Containment + Quicken Power), or to attack with non-SR spells.

How about Quicken + Schism + Link?? :D

Lads, unfortunately my PC is feat starved at the moment!

I just have to make sure I don't get dispelled too often (thank you Ring of Counterspelling). LOL

That'd require two psionic focuses.

Schism + Twin Power.

Sure, you don't get to attack in the first round (unless you can pull off schism + twin power + quicken power!) but the triple attack on subsequent rounds should make up for that.

Multiple effects from the same non-instantaneous source do not stack unless the effect says otherwise. Sorry.

huh?

huh?

I think he's referring to using Personality Parasite on yourself, then Dominating the Parasite. Its like an Uber Schism, since the parasite loses no manifester levels.

not only that, but as far as i can tell, you could technically stack the two... if you could target the parasite with dominate, that is. which you can't.

I knew there's a reason that it didn't work, otherwise I'd have heard about it alot more. I just didn't know the reason.
