| Lokiyn07-06-07, 05:13 PM | I started thinking the other day about the discipline specific lists and i realized that the end of the shaper list wasn't all that hot GenesisX: You instigate a new demiplane on the Astral Plane. True CreationX: As psionic major creation, except items are completely real. The problem is that Genesis isn't something that most people will wind up using in thier campaigns, most groups don't care about planar traveling nor would most groups want to deal with the problems of getting the non caster members in and out of the area, Its a great power, but it just doesn't seem like most groups really could benefit from it. True Creation is much the same way, i'll give you that its a great way to get material that you don't have, but 9 times out of 10 its easier to simply get what you need rather than spend that exp. So i thought about it, and i think what the majority of people are interested in is a power that is both impressive, and functional in most games. So what i did was combine true creation and Genesis to create a new power one that doesn't replace one or the other but gives a player something that is both impressive, and benefits the whole party. Metacreativity (Creation) Level: Shaper 9 Display: Material Manifesting Time: One week (8 hours/day) Range: 60 feet, See Text Effect: A Quasi-Real Stronghold Duration: Instantaneous: See Text Saving Throw: None Power Resistance: No Power Points: 17, Xp You Create a Stronghold with out of stabilized protoplasm; the structure contains no extras nor special materials nor wondrous architecture, and does not include freestanding walls. The Building is considered to be constructed out of Hewn stone, and retains a slight misty quality when examined closely. The power brings into existence the equivalent of 60 stronghold spaces worth of structure, all of which must be within 60 feet of the initial casting point. The structure cannot occupy space already occupied. Once the initial casting is complete the power creates a small model of the desired building at the point of casting, this model is a perfect scale replica of the new structure and has a hardness of 1 and 30 hit points. So long as the replica is intact the building will slowly form out of the ethereal mists and take form about the replica. (Any designs for a structure must include a single room at the center to account for the replica; this room does not count against the total number of Ss). The Structure forms at the rate of a single room per day until the entire formation is complete. Any Damage done to the building, but without total destruction is repaired at midnight. If a section is destroyed the building will repair itself over the span of a week per section so destroyed. If the replica is destroyed all of its counterpart structures fade away in 1d100 rounds like so much mist. SpecialCreating an enormous structure whole cloth at once is a mentally strenuous task requiring a great understanding of the physical structures involved. Any being manifesting this power must make a Knowledge Architecture and Engineering check DC 30 to successfully manifest the power. Regardless of the Number of Spaces created, the psionis limited to 130,000 gp of components, total. No Manifester may have more one such structure at any given time, Creating another causes the first to fade as described above. XP Cost1,000 XP. So basically, the Shaper can create a castle/stronghold for the entire parties use whole cloth. The power is relatively cheap, but doesn't produce any magical effects or wondrous architecture or any other non mundane items. On the other hand while the structure is self maintaining and relatively indestructable, it has an extreme weakness in the form of the replica. As a point of reference, Genesis Creates a 180 foot radius circle (minimum, could be a sphere) of area, which is approximately 240 stronghold spaces worth of free land, i decided that aversion designed to make structures should not be quite as powerful but still be up there, So with an Ad hoc Quartering of the area with the same price, and a little tweaking the above power came about. |

Use true creation to get 5,000gp worth of building materials, and use fabricate to put up the building. If you want to put the keep in a naturaly rocky area, or in the middle of a forest, you don't even need to use true creation to get the building materials (although you may need some astral constructs to haul logs for you). Anyway, the only thing I realy don't like is the miniature castle thing. The flavor of it feels all wrong for psionics. It's too much like an arcane focus. I would leave that out, and just say that the castle doesn't come back if you can completely level it inside of a week. |

| Lokiyn07-06-07, 10:05 PM | The point i'm trying to make isn't that genesis is a "Bad" Power. The main point i'm trying to make is that the both Genesis and True creation are powers that aren't necessarily something that characters other than the shaper can use. Genesis, Rarely benefits the whole party, for example in many cases the rogue/fighter/barbarian/ranger/etc, Anyone without planeshift or gate, will have to be taken to and from the demiplane, or spend money on an item to do it. True creation has the problem of it costs exp and doesn't produce very much. In addition Using Fabricate to build structures you come into the problem of a complete lack of mechanics. Also Fabricate is limited to items of equal value to the materials you use. which isn't to say you can't. It just winds up the dm needs to then start bfiguring out if there is enough stone avalible and all the other material to match the value of your chosen structure. How much wood do you need for a cottage? can you build it with only wood? How much stone do you need with it? Nails or wooden splints? thatch, stone varnish, tile, plaster, whitewash, etc? On the other hand the Stronghold builders guide covers this by assigning costs to all sorts of structures. And it takes roughly 60 days at most to construct and Repairs itself if damaged. Anyway, the only thing I realy don't like is the miniature castle thing. The flavor of it feels all wrong for psionics. It's too much like an arcane focus. I would leave that out, and just say that the castle doesn't come back if you can completely level it inside of a week. And this... This feels exactly like Psionics just sounds too sci-fi, i mean magic shouldn't be this wierd mental stuff Look at it this way, if you can't wrap your mind around it. Psionics brings whats in your mind, into external reality. Internal to External. Now imagine the energy needed to draw material across the planar boundries and stabilize it into a solid real form, and remember that this is quite a large structure. So we draw on the traditional methods of psionics and magic, not dnd magic, the old magic of lore and story. when someone wanted to use a grand conjury or a Major Magic they created a focus, something capable of handeling the energies that a single individual couldn't. So look at it this way, a single psion can't handle the energy needed to form an entire stronghold at once. So instead, the psion takes the immage in his head and carefully crafts it piece by piece in his mind, down to the last detail. Since he can't channel that much power and retain the level of detail necessary to create the entire structure, so instead he creates the structuer in miniature, and links it to the etheral allowing the structure to draw on the ethereal plane for material and the template provide by the psion to produce the form. Just to point out, this isn't much different than what genesis does. The psion doesn't create the demiplane, what the psion creates is a density fluctuation that becomes the demiplane. The psion doesn't create the demiplane whole cloth, he pushes and prods at the astral material compressing it further and further, until it reaches a density that allows the process to be self sustaining. Manifestation of this power creates a local density fluctuation that precipitates the creation of a demiplane. |
