| Solstysse11-06-07, 11:54 PM | Okay, my husband and I are having a disagreement about share pain and forced share pain. (pg. 132 cpsih) It covers the fact that if the subject of "share pain, forced" being my psion, is immune to say...fire dmg the second subject is dealt no dmg. But if I'm vunerable to say mind affecting spells and I take dmg from that, and I'm linked with an undead character does he take dmg even though he is immune to mind affecting dmg? My case: Share pain reads ..."You take half damage from all attacks that deal hp damage to you, and the subject takes the remainder". So If I'm vunerable to something, then the person I'm sharing pain with takes dmg regardless of the power/spells original dmg type because it sounds as if the damage is dealt to me and converted to pure hp dmg when sent to the other character. His case: Damage dealt to the first character (my psion) keeps it's type when transfered to the second character (the undead) and if the second character happens to be immune to that type, it takes nothing. And if so, what happens to that dmg? Does it go back to me, does it dissapate? |

You take half damage from all attacks that deal hit point damage to you, and the subject takes the remainder. The amount of damage not taken by you is taken by the subject. If your hit points are reduced by a lowered Constitution score, that reduction is not shared with the subject because it is not a form of hit point damage. When this power ends, subsequent damage is no longer divided between the subject and you, but damage already shared is not reassigned. As share pain, except as noted here. You attempt to force the sharing of your wounds with an unwilling creature, and for less time. If you are immune to the type of damage dealt, or if you convert lethal damage into nonlethal damage, the target takes no damage. Due to the fact that it does not state that the type of damage is changed, unlike the emphatic transfer powers specifically change the type to typeless, I'm afraid that as I read it your husband is right that the type of damage is still transfered, therefore if you take fire damage and the subject is immune to fire he takes no damage, but you still only take half. As far as mind-affecting is concerned, I don't think this is a damage type, but rather a spell/power type. You instantly deliver a massive assault on the thought pathways of any one creature, dealing 1d10 points of damage to it. The damage is from an unclassified type, an undead is not immune to the damage, but it is immune to the power itsself. Therefore the damage taken by a character with share pain active on an undead who takes a mindthrust would split the pain with the undead. The real question is of coarse how do you affect an undead with share pain, forced when undead are immune to fort save powers? :) |

| PhaedrusXY11-07-07, 12:03 PM | I think the damage from Share Pain is untyped, and bypasses all immunities. Otherwise, it would be even better to put it on your Psicrystal than it is. The hardness would reduce most damage to almost nothing. IMO it should even bypass things like regeneration. |
| Solstysse11-07-07, 12:28 PM | Good point about the fort save. I didn't even think about that. Now I just need to figure out how to make them share pain...*laughs* Bah undead....the plauge of my character! |
