06-17-07, 07:48 PM I notice that very few powers have anything to do with acid. I seem to remember seeing more powers with acid back in 3.0, for what it is worth. I was just curious as to why acid became so rare. What happened to cause the newer edition to have fewer acid powers?

06-17-07, 07:52 PM Acid is a substance. Psychokinesis doesn't produce substances. So acid got moved to another discipline.

There are still several powers which deal acid damage. They're all psychometabolic powers. The idea is that you're causing your skin (or other body part) to secrete acid. Breath of the black dragon, dissolving touch, dissolving weapon, and exhalation of the black dragon are the psychometabolic acid powers from the XPH. That covers acid rays, acid cones, acid touch attacks, and acid weapons.

Personaly, I think metacreativity would have made more sense. Creating acid with your mind.

Energy adaptation, and it's derivatives (notably energy conversion) are all that's left of the psychokinesis [acid] powers.

06-17-07, 07:52 PM Acid has been moved to something formed by Psychometabolism powers, instead of one formed by Psychokinesis powers. Acid damage in psionics comes from changing your biology so that you produce your own acid, while the other energy powers come from manipulating matter or energy. There's still acid powers around, but because Psychometabolism is more focused on buffing yourself than direct damage, there are much less of them.

Psychokinesis as a whole only involves creates and manipulates energy, and if a psychokinetic power manipulates matter it is indirectly by creating a force which acts apon that matter.

Is there any reason this can not currently be done using the existing Metacreative Powers?

06-18-07, 02:30 PM No, there isn't. However, you would have to write your own power if you want an offensive metacreative acid power. The only existant metacreative powers which can create acid are minor creation, major creation, fabricate, and true creation.

edit: Astral constructs can get a menu choice that deals acid damage, so I guess there's that.

06-18-07, 02:50 PM The way the current situation stands, acid belongs to psychic warriors and users of psychometabolism (not just egoists). There is no reason why you couldn't make caustic substances with metacreativity (astral matter appears to change its properties according the whim and based on the mental prowess of the person who shapes it). But psychokinetics have 4 energy types to play with and can just leave acid to those better suited to use it.
