| Water_To_Fire07-15-07, 01:30 PM | Basically, is it worth it? I've heard many good things about it, but I'd like to hear the pros and cons. Thanks for your time. |
| SlanderPanic07-15-07, 01:38 PM | It's worth the $20 just for the society mind. The rest is pretty much all icing on the cake. Sweeeeeeeet icing. |
| Fafnir07-15-07, 02:30 PM | It's worth the $20 just for the society mind. The rest is pretty much all icing on the cake. Sweeeeeeeet icing. You mean, it's worth the $9 just for the Marksman. After all, the Society Mind is available for free. :P I just got it recently, and I must admit the content is AWESOME. |
| Bacris07-15-07, 02:36 PM | As the guy who did the layout, I can honestly tell you - the layout still needs a lot of work... Definitely one thing I still don't like about the book and something I intend to fix this year. :) While it's not atrocious, it is not as professional-looking as I'd like it to be. Other than that, I'm going to stay out of the discussion as I consider myself horribly biased :) |
| Ninetails Demon07-15-07, 02:51 PM | DEFINATELY worth it. Also, they're actually supporting the product with their other releases. Namely, prestige classes solely for the Marksman and the Society Mind (I assume the soulbinder prestige class is solely for the society mind, since I haven't seen it yet). And besides their new base classes, prestige classes, wide variety of feats and powers, and monsters for the campaign addition, UTP also has suggested fixes for some of the weaker psionic classes! Another solid mark is the number of racial substitution levels and "paragon" classes. A few of the problems are the soft-cover (unless you just buy the PDF) and some of the artwork is lacking. Since the layout was already mentioned, I just have to mention that the soft-cover was a real pain. When my copy arrived, it already had some damage to its cover. But, all around a really great buy. |
| Deekin07-15-07, 03:23 PM | It's a great Book. It Contains 2 Racial substution levels for all XPH races that are OGC. Paragon level for all XPH races that are OGC. 3 New Base Classes, Including the Marksman (Psionic ranged combat specialist. Full BAB, buy limited manifesting.) The Society Mind, which is a psionic support class, and the Dedicaded psion, sort of a specialist psion. It Features servail new PRCs, all of them cool, and balanced. It features a ton of new powers, including a great fix for the Polymorph problem. It has some new psionic monsters, including the Nameless Fear, and Two psionic dragons, the Logos and Pathos dragons. As Barcis said, the layout isn't perfect, but all in all this book is way better that Complete psionics. |
| red_scare8707-15-07, 03:48 PM | Absolutely worth it, just for the new base classes. Also, there are some excellent feats and powers. ...My next character is going to be a Marksman. :D |
| Water_To_Fire07-15-07, 06:06 PM | Okay, I'm sold. I'm thinking of just getting the PDF, and then printing the parts I use frequently. Is this (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=24061) a good place to buy it from? |
| Millenia07-15-07, 06:37 PM | I love the book as well. ^_^ As for buying, I suggest buying it directly from their site. |
| Water_To_Fire07-15-07, 08:12 PM | Okay, I found the site. Where's the PDF version? That's the one I'd like to buy. EDIT: Never mind, I found it. I'm not sure how I missed it the first time through... |
| Millenia07-15-07, 08:28 PM | The one that is marked "download version" is the PDF version. |
| Celsun07-16-07, 07:32 AM | I bought a PDF version a while back. It's better than what WotC has been producing lately vis-a-vis psionics. I use bits of it along with some items from CPsi, Hyperconscious, and the Mind's Eye. |

| Water_To_Fire07-16-07, 10:13 AM | Unfortunately, my download was unsuccessful. After much hassle, I'd finally gotten to the point where they sent me the email with the dowload ID. But there was no download ID to find! All it was was a list of shipping details and the like. So I tried using the ID that was already in the box. Something downloaded alright, but all it was was an 18.8KB picture of the main page for Dreamscarred Press. Nothing I've tried works, so I've dispatched an email to Dreamscarred Press. Hopefully they know the answer.... |
| Bacris07-16-07, 11:14 AM | This is a bit too close to crossing the line of the CoC for me to discuss here, so check your PMs / email :) |
| Water_To_Fire07-16-07, 11:38 AM | Wow, thanks. You're a real life saver, Bacris. I'll hopefully be able to complete the download tonight, when my dad come home. He's the one that made the account, and so your email went to his address and not mine. |
| Water_To_Fire07-16-07, 08:16 PM | Okay. I tried the new ID thingy and I got the same problem. Then I tried it on my other computer, just to check if that could be the problem, and voila! It worked! Finally. Thanks everyone. |
| Tealgorthian07-16-07, 08:21 PM | Okay. I tried the new ID thingy and I got the same problem. Then I tried it on my other computer, just to check if that could be the problem, and voila! It worked! Finally. Thanks everyone. I hope you got them networked ;) If I had money to burn, I'd buy it. |
| Bacris07-16-07, 08:37 PM | Sounds like a browser setting or cookie issue :( Glad it's fixed! |
| Water_To_Fire07-16-07, 08:43 PM | I hope you got them networked ;) If I had money to burn, I'd buy it. Actually, it's better this way. The computer it worked on has encryption, so downloading anything takes an annoyingly long time. That's why I tried on the other computer, even though it's not the one I usually use. Since it's on this one in the first place, I don't have to bother sending it over. I haven't had much time to read to in depthly, but I like what I've seen so far. I really hope my DM will let me use it. |
| AskaniPsion07-16-07, 11:29 PM | yeah so far I have liked all the products available. I have picked up the Psicrystal one, the Mind Divine one and Untapped. All were worth the price. |
| Grimmsfeld07-18-07, 01:12 AM | Gotta say, the mantras, and that mantra PrC (sorry I can't remember the name, been awhile since I've had reason to look at it, currently stuck in a non-psionic group,) are pretty awesome. This is one damn fine book, provided your group uses psionics, and uses 3rd party material. |
| Deekin07-18-07, 01:15 AM | I think it's called knight mediant. |
| Water_To_Fire07-18-07, 08:59 AM | I think it's actually Knight Meditant. |
| Meikle_64107-18-07, 08:15 PM | I just bought UT two weeks ago and while I haven't read it all (only skimmed), the Marksman blows me away. It is one of the only classes I've seen in ages that makes me excited to play it. One of the things I enjoyed is that one feat chain that allows you to eventually Hide in Plain Sight against anything but creatures immune to mind affecting. Finally a way to achieve the ability and for it to not be useless! Anyway, it is definitely worth every penny I paid. |
