Ok,

real quick question about some obscure combinations of some obscure classes. For those of you familiar with Untapped Potential, I am attempting to use the Society Mind to qualify for Sangehirn. My question: does the Society Mind's ability to swap out his powers known when he rests apply to Sangehirn powers?

Given the text of the Sangehirn it appears so, just that you must select new powers from the Sangehirn list.

Thanks

From the original society mind FAQ, which I suppose I should mirror on the main FAQ...

My society mind just took a level of Sangehirn (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040625c). What happens to my power list?
While there are no hard-and-fast rules written about PrCs that increase existing manifester levels, but have their own power list, the development team suggests that you treat the powers on the new list (sangehirn list here) as if they were society mind powers. This means, in part, that you can rotate more individual powers into your powers known. This stance is supported by the development team as a primary measure.
...
On a related note, class abilities that add powers known (such as those of the Elocator and Thrallherd) are treated exactly the same way as Expanded Knowledge is, not like this ruling. That is, the powers added cannot be rotated, but do not count against your powers known.

Thanks, I didn't even think to look in a FAQ because I didn't expect to find 3rd party info.

Now I have another question though, does this mean that I can rotate out all Sangehirn powers (if I for some reason wanted to) and gain access to Society Mind powers based on my total manifestor level?

For instance, if I were a level 10 Society Mind, and a level one Sangehirn, could I swap out my Sangehirn power for a 6th level power on the Society Mind list?

Thanks

Yes. However, there's a lot of good overlap between the two lists, and if you're taking Sangehirn you'll probably want healing-type powers anyway. (And for the record, Society Mind 10 / Sangehirn 1 knows the same number of powers as a society mind 10.)

If you find this too permissive (playtesting has never once suggested this), the angry fix is to track however many powers you learned from the sangehirn levels and keep that many powers from the sangehirn list on your known powers all the time. This is far more complex than it needs to be and doesn't significantly alter the play style of a society mind/sangehirn, so I don't recommend it.

Well, I'm about to pitch a character concept based on this build for a high psionics world, so I wanted to make sure I had my ducks in a row before I pitched it.

Also, the Sangehirns list always seemed quite restrictive to me, and the Society Mind's ability to swap powers really made the PrC more attractive.

The only thing I'm concerned about is that my DM will balk at the feat that lets me heal the entire party for free without expending any resources. (the one that lets you share fast healing, which I will have as a sangehirn)

It's a high-powered, high-psionics world, though so I'm hopeful.

The main problem with relying on your Sangehirn fast healing (shared through the worldthought network) to heal the party is that it's really slow. Of course, as a recent thread on the CO boards points out, you should be doing as much healing as possible during downtime anyway.
