| Screams02-26-08, 10:19 PM | I am in the process of creating a new character for Ebberon. A Psion. So say I choose a human or human type. I choose my stats, str int cha etc... Now what happens? I get skills obviously. How many and from where? +int modifier? or wis? Feats? Humans get 1 or 2 or 3 or what? Halfings get? Changlings? Does it go off the standard character creation for races? Normal feats choices or psionic or both? I see in some writings, powers are normally 2 at lev 1 and you get a 3rd at level 2. Is that for all types of Psions? do Humans get more? does another race get more or just racial specific and would that be better then a humans choice? example Meaneds or Xeph getting the racial bonuse powers do they only get 1 other power then? Now the confusing question... Is a Psionic character a seperate class? Can I be a Wizard Psion? Without being multiclassed? Or must I be one foe x levels then switch to other like normal classes. ie. warrior bard? Or is that why they created the extra Psion classes Psion being close to a wizard, Lurk being like a rogue or bard. Divine Mind being like a cleric??? Should Psions take seperate powers or go with mantles these days? Seems mantles are faster in a sense but powers have a bigger variaty to choose from but don't have all the powers that might be in mantles. Lastly before I get responses... Deja Vu? Say my tank or Dpser has int, and goes first in fight and just wacked the monster/npc for 50% damage on his turn. Now I have next int, I use Deja Vu on my tank / dpser. Does that mean he does the final 50% damage killing the monster right then? Basically doing it in my turn? |
| Bacris02-26-08, 10:22 PM | Wow, ok. I'm not trying to be rude, but have you at least looked at the Expanded Psionics Handbook or the Psionic rules in the SRD? You're making this way more complicated than it is. |
| Screams02-26-08, 10:38 PM | hehe Yeah I've looked . I must be making it more complicated then it is. I have a druid as a character and even the whole wild shape thing got me for a few minutes till it was explained. any how. I am going to assume characters are characters and get the same build as all classes including psion. Just my DM thinks I should be a sorcerer or wizard also if I am a straight Psion. So I got lost on that |
| Artector02-26-08, 10:42 PM | Psion is a class, just like sorcerer/wizard, it is not a template. That's what it sounds like you are getting confused on. |
| Tempest Stormwind02-26-08, 10:57 PM | See the FAQ and New Player's Guide in my signature. Try thinking of "psion" as "wizard", if that helps you keep things straight on how they work. They use different mechanics, but the basic idea -- namely, that each is a class that has special powers -- is the same between the two. |
| Deekin02-26-08, 11:10 PM | hehe Yeah I've looked . I must be making it more complicated then it is. I am going to assume characters are characters and get the same build as all classes including psion. Just my DM thinks I should be a sorcerer or wizard also if I am a straight Psion. So I got lost on that Whoh, yeah. Psion is a class, just like wizard, druid, et all. It follows the same rules as anything else. What I think your DM is thinking of is the Phrenric template, which is used to make monsters psionic. |
| Screams02-26-08, 11:21 PM | ok thanks So what about the Deja Vu? does it work like that ? a character hits for 50% damage I cast Deja Vu on said character , and he goes again doing 50% more damage killing said npc? |
| AntiDjinn02-27-08, 12:06 AM | Deja Vu does exactly what it says it does: It forces the target (one creature) to repeat its actions from the previous round. It does not affect the entire universe and cause all event or outcomes to be repeated; if you were granted a Wish last round, Deja Vu does not give you another one this round, though it would cause you to repeat the words you used. In other words, the power does not cause time to rewind and repeat itself, it only causes a single target to spend its actions doing whatever it spent its actions doing last round. In the example you gave: If the subject attacked last round, it attacks the same target this round (if possible). It still needs to roll to hit. It still needs to roll damage if it does hit. It does not do the same percentage of the target's hit points; it rolls whatever dice of damage is appropriate for its attack. And not to be insulting, but you are asking about Dungeons & Dragons version 3.5 from Wizards of the Coast, right? |
| jbsaff02-27-08, 01:11 AM | Is your DM familiar with Psionics? If so, it may be helpful to sit down and get a good feel for some of the basics. This will help you understand the general ideas and help us give you useful information. Read the New Players Guide that Tempest mentioned for sure. Also, on you asked about psicrystal feats on another thread. Read the FAQ to get more specific information on that. And double-check with your DM to make sure that feats for psicrystals is allowed. By strict reading of the rules, it should be, but your game may vary. |
