Alrighty. I was considering a straight port of the soulcaster PrC from Magic of Incarnum. It's a really easy change, with just a few prereq alterations to make it slightly more psionics friendly.

What I noticed was that you can qualify for the incarnum side of the PrC using nothing but feats, with a single level of a meldshaping class to ease the prereqs, as well as to give you access to the +1 meldshaping class feature.

Am I reading into this wrong? If I can lose a single manifester level and a handful of feats (which I can psychically reform away once the PrC itself helps me meet the prerequisites, is this really worth it?

I don't have any experience in incarnum-based characters, but they seem...really, really weak, and not a whole lot of fun.

Discuss. :)

Just out of curiosity, are you aware of the Soul Manifester (https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20060217a) from the Mind's Eye?

I don't have a lot of experience either, but this post (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=574633) has a mathematical analysis of how a single-class Incarnate can stack up against other base classes in various roles, if he chooses to assume them. A lot of the analysis assumes that you gain chakra binds at the rate the Incarnate gets them; I'm not sure how the Soul Manifester stacks up in that regard. (I know you miss out on Heart and Soul binds...) The Totemist is a bit more straightforward, and I though I haven't played either, I can see how a Totemist/Egoist/Soul Manifester might be fun. If you'd rather have all your save DCs based off the same ability score, you could try an Incarnate/Ardent, but maintaining a high Constitution score seldom hurts anything.
