| ThkkBldstrm07-19-07, 04:27 PM | I was just wondering what people thought of the Soulbound Weapon variant of the Psychic Warrior from the Minds Eye? Was it worth it or is the normal Psychic Warrior better? Thanks in advance. |

The only thing comparable would be an incarnum user with the incarnate weapon soulmeld. Soulbound Warrior is, in my opinion, perfectly balanced with the standard Psychic Warrior. However, they excell at different areas. The Soulbound variant is better for characters who depend on having a specific weapon ability which might be otherwise hard to obtain. The variant is also better for characters who can't always be carrying a big weapon around, such as anybody who lives in a big city or who depends on stealth and deception. If you want pure power, or versatility, then you might want to stick with the standard psywar. That extra bonus feat can mean getting a PrC or feat several levels earlier, and call weaponry isn't the most effective power at 1st level. You can also usually find a magic weapon as treasure (or make/buy one) that is just as good as a Soulbound Weapon would be. |
| TheKeyofE07-19-07, 07:45 PM | My friend tried the Soulbound Weapon variant, and the biggest problem he found was spending an action at the beginning of combat to manifest Call Weaponry. If you have a good scout to warn you of impending encounters, this isn't such a problem, but our party's rogue sucked and never scouted. And even if you do have a good scout, you could still get surprised or ambushed and be left without a weapon. Eventually my friend asked the DM if he could retrain feats and just get a normal weapon instead. |

I was worried about the possibility of being caught off guard without a weapon and without a round to get it that I picked up Improved Unarmed Strike and will be taking Superior Unarmed Strike and Snap kick later to go with it. Missing the feat does kinda hurt but I think in the long run being able to instantly call up a bane weapon of my choice is a really good option. Or to handle DR I can't bypass normally I pick up metalline or one of the alignment enhancements. http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
