Soulknife Improvements [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-28-07, 12:14 PM First off, I'd like to know what everyone else thinks of the Soulknife as written in the EPH as compared to other D&D classes (not just psionic). Underpowered, balanced, or overpowered?

Personally, I've found the soulknife to be horribly underpowered, but I'm open to the possibility that I'm the only one.

Anyways, onto my improvements. Feedback is most welcome, as I'm still working on balanceing it.

Improve BAB to full
Gains proficiency with all Martial weapons
Mind Blade tops out as a +10 weapon instead of +9 (still determining exactly which levels the improvements happen at)
Feat (haven't named it yet): Each time you take it, select 2 weapons you are profient with. You may select those weapons when you use shape mind blade.
Shape mind blade takes a standard action for light and 1-handed weapons, full-round action for 2-handed, double, and dual weapons
If you choose 2 weapons, they can be any weapon you can transform your Mindblade into (both have to be the same weapon)
The soulknife counts as a "manifesting class" for martial prestige classes such as the Illithid Slayer and Elocater, but not for prestige classes like the Metamind or Cerebremancer. (As per the "Improved mind blade" class feature of the Illumine soul)
Add Intimidate to class skills

I'm also thinking about adding some additional weapon special ability options, but haven't decided what yet or how they'll scale.

So what's everyone think?

10-28-07, 01:42 PM I had a talk with my DM since I chose to play a Soulknife (we started a new campaign a few weeks ago). We ended up giving it a full BAB, to make any one martial weapon with Mind Blade (Su)-ability, instead of the normal choices and a d10 HD. Not overpowered (I guess) and certainly not as pathetic as it normally is.
