Hello.

I've just joined a new group of level 1 characters. The group already has a HalfOrc Barbarian, so I thought I'd fill the support fighter position.
Fesik the Goliath Psychic Warrior came to mind, one that specializes in charge.

Fesik uses items that boost movement (for movement and jump skill), and a variety of feats and powers to make the charge interesting.

Skills: Concentration, Jump, Tumble, Autohypnosis
Items: Boots of striding and springing,
various ability boost items, Bracers of armor, Scabbard of keen edges.

Feats:
Level 1:Improved Initiative, Speed of Thought (Stay Focused)
Level 2:Exotic Weapon (great falchion)
Level 3:Power Attack
Level 5:Leap Attack
Level 6:Psionic Charge (Spend Focus)
Level 8:Monkey Grip
Level 9:Psionic Meditation
Level 11:Extend Power (Spend Focus)
Level 12:Up the Walls (Stay Focused)
Level 14:Expanded Knowledge (Schism)
Level 15:Craft Tattoo
Level 17:Improved Sunder
Level 18:Combat Brute
Level 20:empty Slot
Level 21:Expanded Knowledge (temporal acceleration)

Powers:
Level 1:Expansion
Level 2:Bite of the Wolf
Level 3:Force Screen
Level 4:Animal Affinity
Level 5:Psionic's Lion Charge
Level 6:Strength of My Enemy
Level 7:Vigor
Level 8:Precognition, Defensive
Level 9:Inertial Armor
Level 10:Dimension Door
Level 11:Freedom of Movement
Level 12:Empathic Transfer, Hostile
Level 13:Weapon of Energy
Level 14:Body Adjustment
Level 15:Vampiric Blade
Level 16:Inconstant Location
Level 17:Form of Doom
Level 18:Dispelling Buffer
Level 19:Empty slot
Level 20:Empty Slot

Main concept is Charge. As Fesik gains levels, it gets more interesting.
Speed of Thought gives additional 10' to movement and as a result +6 to jump. Boots of striding and springing for another +6 due to movement and +5 competence to Jump together with 5 ranks in Tumble for a total of +19 to jump and 50' base movement.
This works very well with the Expanded Fesik, Leap Attack feat and Psionic's Lion charge power at level 5 (Charge and make full attack with big plus to damage).
By level 6 Fesik is able to make one 90 degree turn while charging thanks to Psionic Charge feat.
Monkey Grip at level 8 lets him use Huge Great Falchion! Now that gets to Colossal Great Falchion when expanded twice!!! :) 8d6 15-20/x2 each attack.

From level 9 on it's utility feats since the main concept is complete.
Freedom of Movement power is very important to ignore difficult terrain when charging, and Inconstant Location power is a whole nest of goodness.

I'd really appreciate any input you might have on the build, things you would do different, suggestions to make it better or more efficient, magic items, feats, powers, classes and prestige classes that will support the main concept of the PC (for example boosts to movement, jump and charge), or simply what you think of it ;)

Thanks!

It seems like a good well-rounded build. One thing that I noticed, is that you use monkey grip, which does not stack with powerful build(I think that is what you are refering to). Greater Concealing Amorpha might be a good expanded knowledge though. For more damage, go with Psionic and Greater Psionic Weapon.

Or you could combine Deep Impact with Power Attack and Leap Attack for some outrageous charging damage that still reliably hits. Making that triple damage PA charge a touch attack can potentially end a fight one round in, if you crit.

I might recommend using a normal falchion and taking weapon focus, rather than using a Great Falchion, but that's not so powerful that it greatly outshines your current choice.

Also, you should definitely either take improved critical, or make your weapon keen for some serious bad-:censored:itude. (never mind, just saw your scabbard of keen edges)

For one of those open high-level power slots, I highly recommend Personal Mind Blank. Immunity to all mind-affecting effects is very powerful. You might even want to take it before Dispelling Buffer.

This is a solid build, and should serve you well.

On another note, don't Goliaths have a +1 LA?

Hmm... Monkey grip not stackable with Powerful Build? Didn't see that anywhere... Maybe you could point me to the relevant resource? Or maybe you're confusing with Strongarm Bracers (MIC), which indeed does not stack with PB. didn't see anything about Monkey grip, though. Has it been errata maybe?

Concealing amorpha, greater is a great idea, and I already made the change, although it's a PW level3 power, so no need for expanded knowledge there... Thanks!

I thought about Psionic and Greater Psionic Weapon, but I'm reluctant to use any more focus expending feats, since it negates Speed of Thought and Up the Walls. I only want to expend focus when I have to - i.e. when charging and having to take 90 deg turn (Psionic Charge).

Thanks a lot for your help!

Aye, thought aboutn that, still thinking actually... :)
On one hand I don't see myself using it very often since I don't want to expend my focus much. On the other hand it will come in handy when facing an opponent with high AC. Hitting once a round is better than none... ;)

Yeah, good point. I just really like the colossal great falchion option, it's the munchkin in me ;)

Another great idea, already made the change. Thanks!

Yes, they are +1 LA, but my DM ruled that such races start at level 1 and stay at level 1 until 3000 XP (enough for 3rd level) and only then reach level 2. So, you loose a level but can start playing immediately.

Thanks for all your help!

powerful build lets you use weapons designed for creatures one size category larger than you are. a goliath is medium, and therefore can use large weapons due to powerful build (at no penalty, too :) )

monkey grip lets you use a weapon one size larger than you. you are still medium, even though you have powerful build. therefore, monkey grip lets you use a large weapon. which you could already do.

This was advice given to me which I thought might help.

Don't pick Expansion early on because of its short duration.

Try re-organise and put Force Screen and Vigor earlier (1 min/level) as these will help you survive longer. :)

Actually, Expansion is 1 min/level as well and according to errata can be augmented to 10 min/level. But it's a sound advice, thanks!

Ohh, I see...
But I went over Powerful Build again, and it states:
"The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities and spells that change the subject's size category".

Doesn't that mean that Monkey Grip works, since it's stackable?
Hmm... Must be the wording of the feat, hu? Both let you use a weapon one size category larger than you...
Dang... I really liked that one ;)

Expansion is a little odd. The summary at the top says 1 min/level, but the augment in the errata says it increases the duration to 10 min/level from 1 round/level. Not sure how the Primary Source rule settles disputes between a spell's stat block and augmentation options.

Expansion
Psychometabolism
Level: Psychic warrior 1
Display: Olfactory
Manifesting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 round./level (D)
Power Points: 1

3. If you spend 2 additional power points, this power’s duration is 10 minutes per level rather than 1 round per level.

Last I checked it was 1 round/level unaugmented hence it wouldn't be a wise 1st level pick.

Edit: it's quoted twice that it lasts 1 round per level - yeap I agree with Crimson that it's a weird upgrade..

My understanding of the errata is that the duration is 1 min/level augmentable to 10 min/level.
Luckily, that's how my DM understands it too :D

Neither of the effects you're talking about change your size category - only the size of weapons you can wield. Your size category is still Medium.

There was also a FAQ/Sage advice about this stating that both abilities do not stack. Now I'll let you do the search since there are gagillions sage advice/faq. It clarified that powerfull build stacks with effects that grant an actual size increase (like expansion), but monkey grip does not grant an increase in size (only the ability to use larger weapon as if they were made for your size) and is not stackable with powerfull built.

I know because I once wanted to do that too... :(

Here is the errata.

Page 105–106: Expansion Power
The third option for augmenting the power should read
as follows:
3. If you spend 2 additional power points, this power’s
duration is 10 minutes per level rather than 1 round per
level.

Since you have Psionic Meditation, you shouldn't be too worried about spending your focus. Remember, it's only a move action to get it back. You can still attack or manifest a power in that turn, without too much trouble.

But remember that it still provokes AOOs.

I suggest picking up either Metamorphosis or Psionic Fly with Expanded Knowledge so you can charge creatures foolish enough to think that being airborne is enough to be safe. As an added bonus, according to the Rules of the Game article (All About Movement, Part 5), a diving charge with a claw, slashing, or piercing weapon deals double damage (which is like getting Leap Attack as a bonus). I mention the article because the SRD only mentions you able to get double damage with claw or talon attacks while diving, and your DM might rule otherwise. Flight is still an invaluable tool though.

You might also want to consider picking up Fleet of Foot (CW) instead of Psionic Charge. You'd get nearly the same benefit, but you don't have give up your focus.

Any ideas on how to boost movement?
Besides imbuing yourself with flight, the Hustle power gives you an extra move action at a cost of only 3PP.

The following may be of use to you:

Barbarian 1 (Lion totem, CC): Gains pounce instead of fast movement.
Shock Trooper (CW): Essential for a power attacking charger (Not to mention really good synergy with combat brute).

You want to aim for 16 bab for the fourth attack. So you need 4 levels of something with full bab. Warmind is a good choice, Slayer, Storm Disciple is also a nice idea. If you tried Ardent it would make things a whole lot different.

Lance of Vaulting and Battle Jump might be something to look at... the valorous weapon enhancement is something to add to the lance of vaulting if you want things to get ridiculous.

Here is a simple build:

Goliath
*Buying LA off?*

LA+1/Barbarian Lion Totem 1 (Mountain rage variant)/Psychic Warrior 8/Slayer 10

BAB 17
psy warrior -fester level: 17

Feats:
1) Power Attack
2b)EWP: Mercurial Great Sword
3)Track*
3b)Improved Sunder
6)Leap Attack
6b)Improved Bullrush
9)Shock Trooper
9b) Combat Brute
12)Free:
15)Free:
18)Free:

There is legality issues with monkey grip and powerful build so we won't go into that. Otherwise up the walls is replaceable with powers. With this build you probably won't need to extend any of your buffs. Tattoos are very flavorful and if you like that, go for it... realistically I don't find it very effective. To learn powers it might be better to pay another -fester to cast psychic chirurgery.

Mercurial great sword sized to gargantuan (Expansion 2) does 6d8 without monkey grip (and if you want to give your dm headaches discuss mountain rage + monkey grip + expansions 2+ powerful build = effective colossal + depending on how you read it all). Your damage will be all about power attack though, so you shouldn't worry too much about size. You charge power attack for full (17) over 4 attack. Your power attack return is 1:3 and stays that way thanks to combat brute, but if you drop them and charge a new enemy it become 1:4.

good luck.

I was thinking about a +2 holy mindfeeder great falchion.
That bring the amount of damage from size to about the same, but when I crit I get temp PPs as well as bonus d6 when fighting evil opponents. Using Imp. Critical feat or Scabbard of keen edges makes it all that easier to crit. Considering the low PP pool of the PW, it's well worth the +1 cost.
Only problem is, that this will cost 50000gp before calculating masterwork great falchion costs... I dont have that kind of money yet! ;)

So, I think I'll go with a +1 mindfeeder great falchion and later upgrade...
