I'll just go ahead and throw out the no brainer one. Psionics as Magic Psion becomes Sorcerer Erudite becomes Wizard Wilder becomes Warlock Soulknife becomes Arcane Blade Ardent become Philosopher. Divine Mind becomes Aura Blade Lurk becomes Arcane Warden Power Points become Mana Powers become Spells Manifesters become Casters And there we go, now it's an alternative magic system, so any other variants you people have? I'm interested because the Mind Power flavor of Psionics doesn't reall fit into a few of my campaign worlds.

Except instead of calling all psions "sorcerers," I just kept in mind that most NPCs have no real concept of character class and can't tell the difference between a spell and a power anyway. So the kobold sorcerer is a 5th level wilder, and the orcish priest of Grumsh is a 7th level psion. So what? They don't know what their classes are. The kobold ensorcels people, so he gets called a sorcerer by other NPCs. The orc is an ordained cleric of Grumsh, educated in all the most arcane rites and rituals by an elder cleric of Grumsh, and no class levels can change that.

This is pretty much how we do it in the groups I've been in. Only players / DMs know the real difference between a "warrior" and a "fighter", for example. The character might use the term interchangably, but it doesn't mean that the fighter levels all of a sudden became warrior NPC class levels. I think I'm going to start referring to my Ardent as a philosopher, and my erudites as something like students of the mind :)

So why not call egoists adherents of the school of the self, and nomads disciples of the long way? Heck, take out the sugar, add some pepper, as you say. Spice up your life, spice up your campaign.
