| Orchomenos06-13-07, 04:42 PM | With the Grapple option of Telekinetic Maneuver, is it possible to damage your opponent, dealing 1d3+STR (INT) bonus non-lethal damage? |
| InkBlot06-13-07, 04:50 PM | Yes. You do everything you could normaly do in a grapple, you just do it from way over there and with your mind. |
| ShaRd200006-13-07, 05:10 PM | you just do it from way over there and with your mind. IE: Better. ;) |
| Fleem06-14-07, 10:35 AM | The phrase, "Resolve these attempts as normal", has always seemed questionable to me: 1) What size modifier do you use when calculating these attempts? Does your brain-power get bulkier if you're metamorphed into a Huge creature and wimpier if you're a fly? 2) Are you limited in what size of creature it can grapple, trip, or bull rush? The normal limit is one size larger than you. 3) Do you add in bonuses for feats (i.e., improved trip)? 4) You can't use racial (stirge) and spell (iron grip) bonuses to these checks, right? 5) If your manifester level is high enough, can you make multiple grapple checks in one round, even though your actual BAB is too low to do so? |
| Orchomenos06-14-07, 10:41 AM | My DM didn't want to have it deal damage, mainly for reason #1: why would a medium sized manifester deal 1d3 damage, while a small would only deal 1d2? For this reason, he didn't want it to deal any damage at all. I suggested the Telekinetic Maneuver created a Force wrestler replica of yourself, idealised thanks to your intelligence and psionic ability. He agreed, and we "house-ruled" that, even if it's probably THE rule. Anyway, at this point, the base damage is almost irrelevant, since I'm adding my INT bonus: a great +7. So dealing 1d2+7 or 1d3+7... :D |
| lint trap06-14-07, 10:45 AM | I've always ruled that, when using Telekinetic Maneuvers, all casters are treated as being Medium (i.e., no size modifiers). |

These are how the rules work. If you want a flavor explanation, think of it as Orchomenos does (creating a force-replica of yourself) or think of it as bracing the force against your own physical body. |
| CrimsonDeath06-14-07, 05:48 PM | Now you're making me want to make a Jotunbrud telekinetic grappler... |
| Lycanthromancer06-14-07, 06:34 PM | I know it's not written that you use your own size category normally, but I'll assume you do, for the sake of my sanity. If you manifest telekinetic maneuver through your psicrystal, do yo use your psicrystal's size, or your own? If you use metamorphosis to transform yourself into a larger size, do you use your new size category? What about if you share it with your psicrystal and manifest TKM through that? Phew. This is confusing. |
| Orchomenos06-14-07, 08:01 PM | If you manifest telekinetic maneuver through your psicrystal, do yo use your psicrystal's size, or your own? You use your own, for two reasons: 1) A psicrystal is a fragment of a psionic character’s personality. 2) Your psicrystal doesn't manifest the power itself, he merely hold the concentration. If you use metamorphosis to transform yourself into a larger size, do you use your new size category? I guess so. At least, following my explanation that Telekinetic Maneuver creates a Force replica of yourself, the replica should have the same enhancement. What about if you share it with your psicrystal and manifest TKM through that? This one is easier to answer. If you manifest Metamorphosis and share it with your psicrystal, you will both be the same creature (at least, it's my understanding of the process:thinks: ). So you will use the same size bonus. Phew. This is confusing. Indeed! |
| Lycanthromancer06-14-07, 08:09 PM | You use your own, for two reasons: 1) A psicrystal is a fragment of a psionic character’s personality. That's a given... 2) Your psicrystal doesn't manifest the power itself, he merely hold the concentration. Actually, you can manifest a power through your psicrystal if the psicrystal has at least 15 hit dice, using it as the origin of the effect. This can be interpreted as the psicrystal being the manifester of the power for numerous purposes. Hence my question. I guess so. At least, following my explanation that Telekinetic Maneuver creates a Force replica of yourself, the replica should have the same enhancement. That's flavor, though. It's not mentioned in the power's text at all. This one is easier to answer. If you manifest Metamorphosis and share it with your psicrystal, you will both be the same creature (at least, it's my understanding of the process:thinks: ). So you will use the same size bonus. Numerous threads on the psionics and magic boards have generally agreed that you can choose a different form for your psicrystal (or familiar) than yourself when you manifest/cast metamorphosis/polymorph. Thus, it's somewhat of a non-sequitur. Any other thoughts? Anyone? Frankly, turning yourself into a Fine-sized creature and manifesting through your Colossal-sized psicrystal would be a good defensive/offensive combo. |
