I'm confused. Why don't the various TK powers let one use one's primary casting stat (assuming one is not an Int-based manifester)?

Reason: Bad power rewrite.

That, or Psions Rule and Wilders Drool (because they got enervated).

alternately, each of the mental attributes has a sort of physical parralel... wisdome is like the mental version of constitution, charisma is like the mental version of strength (or so we are told) and intelligence is like the mental version of dexterity. i would say that the TK power's are very much a tool of finesse (imagine what you could do with full strength limbs that could measure 0 in every dimension), and that therefore your intelligence (as the mental equivalent to dexterity) is applied.

but that could very well just be making the flavour fit the rules, rather than vice versa :P

You got your parralel wrong.
Intelligence=Strength
Wisdom=Dexterity
Charisma=Constitution

Arguing this is a moot point, as each of the three could be construed as being one or the other.

To bring this topic back to answer your question, my best guess would be a misplaced relic from the psion-centric view of psionics. The editor/designer may have just mistakenly thought that because the Psion is Int-based, it would make the power more effective.

I think that a house-rule in this regard is perfectly justifiable.

Int = Dex, Wis = Con, and Cha = Str is the best parallel.

In which case Telekinesis is clearly Cha-based, as it's far more of a sheer display of force than anything else.

Int = Str
Wis = Con
Cha = Dex

Intelligence is the power of one's mind. This is why intelligence fuels your skill points and languages known. What can your mind do?

Wisdom is the durability of your mind. This is why Wisdom fuels your Will save. What can your mind withstand?

Charisma is the flexibility of your mind. This is why charisma fuels your social aptitude. How can your mind react?

I'm going to go against the grain and say I don't think that there are any good analogies between charisma, constitution, dexterity, intelligence, strength, and wisdom. To me, it seems like saying "perform (strings) = knowledge (arcana), perform (singing) = knowledge (geography), and perform (wind instruments) = knowledge (nature)."

That said, I think that telekinesis calls for a houserule: if a non-intelligence based manifester takes it, they use their manifesting ability, not intelligence. This stuff about how different abilities are appropriate for different types of powers is scaring me: didn't we leave that behind with 3.5 psionics and never look back at the 3.0 Psionics Handbook days?

Int = Dex, Wis = Con, and Cha = Str is probably better.

But on the subject of the OP: though you could houserule to just use the caster's primary casting stat, I also like the idea that some kinds of casters would just be better than others even when using the same power. Though, I wouldn't always keep it Int based either.

Better luck in future books, eh?

Just to be awkward : int = con, wis = str, cha = dex, up = down, black = white. (:))

As to the real question, I'd have to say poor editorial most likely. Running it off the main casting attribute is an acceptable house rule / errata.
