He has a lot of tricks up his sleeve... oh, and before his gross mutation :P I figured this post should go on this board, because where else would it go? Thanks in advance! Dan |
| InkBlot03-19-07, 02:49 PM | TESUOOOOOOOO!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist. You're talking about the Tetsuo from Akira right? I'd have to reread/rewatch the manga/movie to recall all the different things he did. Off hand, he deflected laser beams with a big psychokinetic sphere, crushed everything in a radius around himself with a telekinetic blast, teleported (or was that the freaky kids?), increased his own physical and mental abilities, fused his arm with a weapon to make it more deadly, fused his body with other stuff, and turned into a giant monster. Not a lot of mind-reading or seeing the future. Mostly psychometabolic and psychokinetic stuff. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him being a psion egoist with overchannel, talented, body fuel, psionic body, and lots of psionic talent feats. Psychic warrior with the same feats would also work, but he'd also need expaned knowledge for metamorphosis. A psywar has more bonus feats to get more pp out of psionic talent. If you go wilder, go with educated wilder or mantled wilder from The Mind's Eye. Educated wilder makes slightly more sense I think, as it can represent the influence of the government scientists and the freaky kids. Also keep in mind that a lot of Tetsuo's madness came from Akira messing with Tetsuo's mind (hitting him with id insinuation, personality parasite, et cetera). The big explosion at the end is going to either be some sort of nova trick, reality revision, or a plot device. Heh, maybe that's what happened on the day of mourning. |

| danzibr03-19-07, 03:49 PM | I just watched Akira again last night (it's been a few years), and... I dunno, I just wondered what he'd be like in D&D. Okay, I haven't read the manga, but I've read a good bit about it. There's a good bit of differences, but that's not important. In the anime, let's see some things he can do: 1. make a shield that deflects projectiles of any sort (smoke bombs, bullets, the tank bullets (though that one's not really deflected), lasers) 2. teleport (yup, he does this) 3. fly (at least it sure seems that way) 3. telepathy (he reads Miyaka's thoughts, which is how he finds out where Akira is) 4. all of his offensive powers 5. yeah, when he makes a makeshift robotic arm 6. survive in outer space 7. let's not mention the growing big. Actually, that's not a power, really, what's happening is that he becomes a junkie (and the drugs are suppressing his powers), then the drugs wear off and his body can't handle all of his power, so his body begins devouring everything around him and he grows a lot. Then Akira steps in, stops Tetsuo and makes a new universe. At least, I think that's how it goes. He sounds... too powerful. Not near omnipotent, but pretty powerful. However, I think he's stronger in the anime than the manga, though that's not too important. So yeah, I think he seems to be more of a caster than a PsyWar, and you bring some interesting stuff to the table. I'll definitely have to take a look see (though I don't have Complete Psionic, just XPH). Thanks for responding! Dan |

Sorry to double post but this got up before I knew it was here, if that makes sense. Good call! With the Phrenic template. I just googled it and got led here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/monsters/phrenicCreature.htm), and it seems really good. I don't think he should get any stat bonuses, but everything else matches. I mean, the abilities, "Naturally Psionic" and power resistence all fit. So yeah, thanks. Dan |
| Khan the Destroyer03-20-07, 11:53 AM | 1. make a shield that deflects projectiles of any sort (smoke bombs, bullets, the tank bullets (though that one's not really deflected), lasers) Well, a pretty high AC can be Inertial Armor, Force Screen, and the Defensive Prescience. But if it was like a field or something, I think Telekinetic Sphere would be appropriate. 2. teleport (yup, he does this) Well, this would obviously by Psionic Teleport. 3. fly (at least it sure seems that way) Psionic Fly. 3. telepathy (he reads Miyaka's thoughts, which is how he finds out where Akira is) Read Thoughts or Mind Probe. I don't know, I haven't seen it in a very long time. 4. all of his offensive powers I'm not sure what those are. 5. yeah, when he makes a makeshift robotic arm Graft Weapon. 6. survive in outer space Adapt Body. 7. let's not mention the growing big. Actually, that's not a power, really, what's happening is that he becomes a junkie (and the drugs are suppressing his powers), then the drugs wear off and his body can't handle all of his power, so his body begins devouring everything around him and he grows a lot. If it were a power, it would be Expansion. I'm not sure which class would be best. The Psychic Warrior gets Expansion, Graft Weapon, Adapt Body, and the AC powers. But a psion gets the rest. Though only a nomad gets Fly and Teleport (though Greater Teleport is available to anyone). |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht03-20-07, 02:42 PM | I'd peg him as a 20th level wilder in the anime, and even higher by the end of the manga. His pool of abilities is limited enough to make wilder a better choice than psion, and the wilder class is based on him anyways. |
| danzibr03-20-07, 02:47 PM | and the wilder class is based on him anyways. Very interesting. I wonder if it's true... would make sense though. Akira is old... almost 2 decades old. However, I'm not sure when the wilder was invented. Regardless, thanks for the input and ideas. Maybe my next character will be Tetsuo. Dan |
| InkBlot03-20-07, 03:15 PM | The wilder class was introduced in 3.5. However, Tetsuo isn't the only psychic to get headaches whenever his powers flare up. Wasn't the first either. Carrie (http://imdb.com/title/tt0074285/) was made in 1976. However, Akira is so very widely known that I can't imagine Bruce Cordel failing to be influenced by it when he wrote the XPH. Even if he's never seen it. 1. make a shield that deflects projectiles of any sort (smoke bombs, bullets, the tank bullets (though that one's not really deflected), lasers) Well, a pretty high AC can be Inertial Armor, Force Screen, and the Defensive Prescience. But if it was like a field or something, I think Telekinetic Sphere would be appropriate. There are so many powers that deflect incoming attacks with a barrier of mental force that it isn't even funny. However, I believe Telekinetic Buffer (CPsi) is precisely the defensive power Tetsuo used. Psion/wilder 5, creates a telekinetic field up to 15 feet in diameter, keeps away enemies and provides cover (+4 AC). |
