| Karasten03-14-07, 04:23 PM | There are ways to evade 'poverty vow' by being a Psion. But that is not the point of this topic. The idea is - The Book of Vile Darkness gives several options how to make a Psions life miserable: the drugs. The idea is good (how inconvenient, for an Evil book), and I think that Psionic creatures should be more vulnerable to the effects of that specific 'issue'. What do You think? |
| JulesCARV03-14-07, 04:34 PM | Err... why? Generally, BoED/BoVD stuff is more concerned with divine magic than psionics, but if you have a specific reason for why psions should be more vulnerable to drugs, then I'm open to hearing it. |
| EternalZzyx03-14-07, 04:57 PM | If anything I would say psionic individuals would be less vulnerable, with all the mental discipline thing what they have (except wilders of course). However, I have no experience with drugs so I could just have the wrong impression entirely... |
| RequiemOfReason03-14-07, 05:02 PM | Perhaps the OP is referring to "Psychic Poisons"? |
| PrinceCurtis03-14-07, 06:00 PM | If anything I would say psionic individuals would be less vulnerable, with all the mental discipline thing what they have (except wilders of course). Yea but Wilder have the raw, chaotic force of psionics to protect them. |
| JulesCARV03-14-07, 06:28 PM | I don't think that psionicists should be any less vulnerable to drugs than others. Just not more vulnerable. The least vulnerable classes, I suppose, would be druids and monks who are immune to poison. A psion who gained immunity to poison (such as through the crystal master prestige class with an amethyst gem) would likewise not face difficulties. |
| RadicalTaoist03-14-07, 10:28 PM | What do You think? I thought from the title that this was a thread about the 3.0 Psionics Handbook. |
| AntiDjinn03-14-07, 10:35 PM | I had a 3.0 psionic PrC called the Psychedeletant (or Psychedelist) who made use of drugs to produce altered states of consciousness to heighten the effects of his powers. The PrC was based on increasing the mental effects of drugs while using metabolic control to try to lessen the physiologic effects (such as addiction, and physical side-effects). The only vile content was that even with the PrC's specials you would eventually wind up with a character dealing with addiction (but the addiction rules are reproduced in Unearthed Arcana). If you remember what psionics was like under 3.0, you can understand why a psion might want to be baked all the time. |

| Diplominator03-14-07, 11:33 PM | I thought from the title that this was a thread about the 3.0 Psionics Handbook. No, that's the Vile Book of Psionics. A subtle, but important distinction. |
| SlanderPanic03-15-07, 02:40 PM | Immunity to poison is the biggest double-edged sword in the whole game. Upside: Immune to lots of nasty things. Downside: Alcohol is a poison. Now you know why, exactly, the duergar are so damned grumpy. :banghead: |

| munin03-16-07, 07:12 PM | ...I think that Psionic creatures should be more vulnerable to the effects of that specific 'issue'. Of the 12 psionic classes in EPH and CP, 8 have Autohypnosis as a class skill, which would make them less vulnerable to drugs than other classes (at least the secondary effects). Why do you think that psionic creatures should be more vulnerable? A role-play reason as opposed to mechanical reason? |
| Argo03-17-07, 03:17 AM | They are as susceptible as anyone else + Extremely empathic. So, if anyone else around them is on it, they're, like... DOUBLE on it, man! |
