But does this rule apply to other instances where you have to expend power points, other than powers? For example, let's say I have an umpteenth-level elan psion that has just suffered a massive attack. Let's say he has about one hundred power points, but he's limited by the rule that he cannot invest all that much points at once in a power. However, the elans can expend power points as an immediate action to shrug off damage on a 1-to-2 basis. If he suffered a massive attack that dealt him 200 points of damage, can he immediately expend 100 power points to ignore it, or is he also bound by the previous rule? Note that this is not a psionic power, but a racial ability. That's why I'm confused about this. |
| kyeudo07-19-07, 01:03 PM | Yes. Powers, and ONLY powers, suffers from that rule. All other expenditures, unless otherwise noted, can spend as much as they want on the ability. |

Besides, the point of these boards is to talk about these games, which includes asking questions. It's not like people asking these questions are making the boards grind to a halt. |

| Tempest Stormwind07-20-07, 12:54 AM | Only because I haven't gotten around to it yet, not because I'm ignoring it or anything. And for that, I blame an increased workload at work (we just started ANOTHER paper on top of the textbook I was working on and the robots I was building) combined with simultaneously discovering Twilight Princess and the later playthroughs on Tales of the Abyss. ;) |
| InkBlot07-20-07, 01:59 AM | As a major Zelda geek, please tell me you're playing the Gamecube version and not the bastardized Wii version. Twilight Princess for Gamecube is the one true Twilight Princess. On the Wii the map is reversed. On the GC the map lines up with the maps from Ocarina Of Time and Wind Waker. On the Wii Link is right handed. On the GC Link is left handed, as he always has been. On the Wii attacking is an imprecise affair involving waggling the controller. On the GC Link attacks exactly as you want exactly when you want. On the Wii you can't use your shield on horseback, and the quick dismount is nearly impossible. On the GC you have the aid of your shield on horseback, and the quick dismount is an indispensable part of equestrian combat. The list goes on (and don't get me started on the cursor fairy). The Wii version has only one advantage over the Gamecube version - the fishing minigame at the fishing hole is better. P.S.; Robots are awesome. P.P.S; Wow, WotC's word filter let bastardized through. I'm stunned. |
| Tempest Stormwind07-20-07, 03:01 AM | I could only find it for the Wii, and actually wasn't aware of the difference until I saw him draw his sword right-handed (I'm very much aware of Link being a leftie; I was shocked that they'd changed it... until I saw every soldier, Zelda, and all the enemies fight left-handed. Then I looked it up and found it was reversed). However, I got very, very good at horseback combat to the point where I didn't need the shield; it would have gotten in the way. Similarly, there were perhaps four places in the game I needed to dismount quickly; the swift dismount triggered in three of them (and in the fourth, all it cost me was half a heart and a second of recovery as I was knocked from the saddle). All that said, I greatly preferred the free aiming to anything else that had come before (and I was a freakin' SNIPER in Ocarina; I would routinely climb the lab in Lake Hylia and snipe the crows on the main island. I could do similar stunts in Majora's Mask and Wind Waker, but there were very few places in the game that had such distance on such small targets. Even with this precision, I still greatly preferred the Wii's aiming system). If they'd designed the game with the wii exclusively in mind, it probably would have been a bit better (can't wait for the next one and hope they revise the controls accordingly -- imagine if they did a 1:1 mapping between the sword and the remote!), but as it was they were mapping traditional controls onto the wii, which is *always* awkward. As it stands I'll grab the GCN version anyway and just make do with the poor aiming as I always have. (I'm NEARLY as big of a Zelda geek. The only thing keeping me from being that much of a geek about it is that I would likely offend my first Nintendo affiliation -- Metroid. I've actually hunted down a life-size cardboard standup of Samus, for instance. I should also add that Metroid Prime: Corruption really *does* benefit completely from the wii system, because it wasn't built with a traditional controller in mind. As someone with access to the nintendo press site and who was lucky enough to try a demo of it, I'd think I'm rather authoritative on the subject as far as people can be.) But all of that is off-topic. I'll get to the FAQ when I get a chance -- which won't be for a little bit, because of the paper and because Girl Genius finally caught up in their archives, meaning I've got a few glorious years to catch up on now. |
