| Amoris Dendidorm06-11-07, 01:23 PM | Why, why, why, is this power not augmentable? IMO this power is like Mind Thrust but now as a 7th Lv. Power with 15ft. radius centered on the manifester. For some reason I like this power a lot, but it loses potential due to the [Mind-affecting] and the unability to augment (DC / Dmg). How cool is it to Transport yourself (Dimenson Door, psionc) in the ranks of an enemy army and manifesting this power;) (I know the attacks of oppertunity would be a bit of a downside, but still, very cool!). Well just a thought:) Does anyone know? My thought is that it should be augmentable! |
| Nidair06-11-07, 01:29 PM | You can still Dimension Door in the middle of the enemy's ranks with 20 scrolls inscribed with Explosive Runes on you. Remember to make yourself immune to fire somehow, or else you have to resort to something like Energy Emanation from Frostburn. EDIT: Mind over Energy makes you immune to fire (or whatever energy type you specify) and is just 1 page further from Energy Emanation :P |
| Tempest Stormwind06-11-07, 01:32 PM | You can still Dimension Door in the middle of the enemy's ranks with 20 scrolls inscribed with Explosive Runes on you. Remember to make yourself immune to fire somehow, or else you have to resort to something like Energy Emanation from Frostburn. Explosive Runes are force damage, not fire. Otherwise I'd have you use Energy Conversion. Note that Explosive Runes would be better than Ultrablast here, as would anything else -- you end your turn when you use Dimension Door, meaning you can't manifest powers afterward. |
| InkBlot06-11-07, 01:50 PM | You would have to use Delay Power on the ultrablast, and set it to go off when there are creatures in the area. Schism might work too. You can still Dimension Door in the middle of the enemy's ranks with 20 scrolls inscribed with Explosive Runes on you. But that's not as cool. How cool is it to Transport yourself (Dimenson Door, psionc) in the ranks of an enemy army and manifesting this power;) Very very cool. I agree that it should have been augmentable. It's a classic psi power. It needs some teeth to match it's archetype. |
| Amoris Dendidorm06-11-07, 03:13 PM | With the update from Complete Psion it is possible to augment your Dimension Door, Psionic by making it a move action, so you still have time for the standard action of manifesting Ultrablast! The attacks of oppertunity still remain though:( But, to prevent from slipping; Why is Ultrablast not augmentable!?! Someone, anyone? |
| Antendren06-11-07, 03:17 PM | With the update from Complete Psion it is possible to augment your Dimension Door, Psionic by making it a move action, so you still have time for the standard action of manifesting Ultrablast!Nope. Dimension Door always ends your turn when you use it. |
| Millenia06-11-07, 03:18 PM | With the update from Complete Psion it is possible to augment your Dimension Door, Psionic by making it a move action, so you still have time for the standard action of manifesting Ultrablast! The attacks of oppertunity still remain though:( Wrong. You still end your turn when you use Dimension Door; you just can happen to do a standard action before using the power. Why is Ultrablast not augmentable!?! Someone, anyone? Just because, I think. It's perfect acceptable to houserule in the typical +1d6 damage for 1 PP, +1 to DC for every +2d6. |
| InkBlot06-11-07, 03:38 PM | With the update from Complete Psion it is possible to augment your Dimension Door, Psionic by making it a move action First of all, that augment was not part of the update. It's part of the power as it was printed in the XPH. Second, the book is Complete Psionic, not Complete Psion. Third, you still can't take any actions after manifesting d.door. The move-action augment is only useful for 'porting away after taking a standard action. |
| AntiDjinn06-11-07, 03:51 PM | From the XPH p. 140: Augment: For every additional power point you spend, this power's damage increases by 1d6 points. Damage is fully augmentable, at the most favorable cost to damage ratio. Only DC is fixed. Even at that, enemies who make the save take half damage; against those who make the save the efficiency of augmentation is the same as though the power cost 2 points per additional d6. It was probably designed to be expensive and have a good chance to only do half damage because of all the "specials" built into this damage: It is "enemies" only. There is no chance of friendly fire damage; you can set it off in the middle of your party. It is untyped damage (not even the empathic type) so resistance and reduction is unlikely, only complete immunity to mental effects or power resistance works. Abilities such as evasion, mettle, or evade burst don't protect, though elan resillience and damp power can reduce the damage. Redopsi does not apply. Volatile mind does not apply (It is an area centered on you, it does not target enemy wilders in the area it just happens to damage them). It is a spread, not a burst, so enemies with cover relative to you can still be affected. Anyway, don't let the dice of damage fool you, the power is not really designed for offense. It is a hold-over active defense from 3.0. You use it when bad guys are getting in your face (especially when your party is being swarmed from all sides) to inform them that you consider the 15 feet around you to be personal space. |
| CrimsonDeath06-11-07, 07:47 PM | Abilities such as evasion, mettle, or evade burst don't protect, though elan resillience and damp power can reduce the damage. How does Mettle not help with a "Will half" spell? |
| AntiDjinn06-11-07, 08:20 PM | I was looking at the old sohei version of mettel that only applied to fortitude saves, looks like the 3.5 version applies to fortitude and will partial. |
| Lycanthromancer06-11-07, 08:23 PM | It already has that augmentation. It's just not quite available for public consumption yet. Muahahaha... |
| Crovaxan06-11-07, 11:13 PM | this reminds me of the transformers trailer where the helicopter flies into the army base and then transforms and sends out this huge shockwave to destroy everything. |
