| Pezz01-21-08, 09:37 PM | How would this work? if a psion became an intelligent undead, thus losing his CON score, would he lose all access to CON based powers? |
| AntiDjinn01-21-08, 09:39 PM | What Con-based powers would those be? Please tell me you are not using 3.0 psionics and wandering around at large. |
| Fafnir01-21-08, 09:41 PM | CON based powers? There's no such thing. You're thinking about 3.0 Psionics. |
| Tempest Stormwind01-21-08, 10:01 PM | Even in 3.0 psionics, take a look at the Monsters chapter. They clearly explain what happens when you deal with an undead psionic creature: No Psychometabolism, but use Charisma for Psychokinesis. However, drop that **** right now, wash your hands, and call a priest. Then, once he's through, pick up the Expanded Psionics Handbook and watch for any residual side effects, calling your doctor if they persist. (The sudden euphoria you will feel upon reading the XPH is not a side effect; it is perfectly natural and to be expected.) |

They clearly explain what happens when you deal with an undead psionic creature: No Psychometabolism, but use Charisma for Psychokinesis. If that's what happens, why didn't they just base Psychometabolism on Constitution and Psychokinesis on Strength? |
| Tempest Stormwind01-21-08, 11:37 PM | If that's what happens, why didn't they just base Psychometabolism on Constitution and Psychokinesis on Strength? It's 3.0 psionics. For that ruleset, "Why did they anything?!?" remains a perfectly valid and open question no matter how you ask it. |
| AntiDjinn01-21-08, 11:40 PM | If that's what happens, why didn't they just base Psychometabolism on Constitution and Psychokinesis on Strength? They were that way at some point during development, but were changed shortly before the book was released. This was evident due to legacy text errors such as undead not being able to use psychometabolic powers due to their lack of Con score (it would have been just as easy to attribute it to their lack of metabolism). There was a time when BC used to turn up here regularly and field questions, and that was one of them. |
| Garandene_Lyrandar01-22-08, 12:13 AM | GET OUT |
| CrimsonDeath01-22-08, 03:20 AM | It's 3.0 psionics. For that ruleset, "Why did they anything?!?" remains a perfectly valid and open question no matter how you ask it. Actually, I think the feats that require a minimum PP reserve to function weren't too bad. Sort of a precursor both to Psionic feats that require the character to maintain focus and to Reserve feats. |
| McPoyo01-22-08, 10:48 AM | ...I liked 3.0 psionics... >.> <.< >.> |
| Psionx01-22-08, 12:12 PM | So I guess it wouldn't be a good thing if I still have my 3.0 psionics handbook? I did like that in 3.0 psionics you didn't need focus for the feats. On the attack and defense modes though, couldn't you just be a monster with all of them at will and build character levels from there? |

On the attack and defense modes though, couldn't you just be a monster with all of them at will and build character levels from there? Except only monsters had any use for attack and defense modes. No PC whose player did not have brain damage ever willingly used the psionic combat system. It was written just to see who failed 6th grade math. |
| Lycanthromancer01-22-08, 01:03 PM | Except only monsters had any use for attack and defense modes. No PC whose player did not have brain damage ever willingly used the psionic combat system. It was written just to see who failed Kindergarten finger-painting. Fixed. |

It was written just to see who failed 6th grade math. Well, defense modes at will would've been nice, with all those monsters out there that had at-will attack modes. |
| jbsaff01-22-08, 07:26 PM | So I guess it wouldn't be a good thing if I still have my 3.0 psionics handbook? No. No it wouldn't. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that's a Bad Thing TM. I tried reading the 3.0 book after researching the 3.5 SRD. Took me about 10 minutes to realize I needed to convince my DM to NOT go with the books just this once. It was even a 3.5 game. |
| CryoSilver01-22-08, 07:30 PM | ...I liked 3.0 psionics... >.> <.< >.> Burn the witch! :mage: |
| The_Mess01-22-08, 07:44 PM | 3.0 Psionics turned me into a newt! |
| CrimsonDeath01-22-08, 07:52 PM | 3.0 Psionics turned me into a newt! A newt?! |
| CryoSilver01-22-08, 08:11 PM | He got better... |
| Tempest Stormwind01-22-08, 09:59 PM | http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/monty_python.jpg |
| CryoSilver01-22-08, 10:12 PM | How many surrealists does it take to screw in a light bulb? Fish. |
| jbsaff01-23-08, 12:30 AM | Wait! I thought the answer was haberdashery. |
| CrimsonDeath01-23-08, 02:09 AM | How many surrealists does it take to screw in a light bulb? At least two, but they'd have to be pretty small. No, wait, that's Freudians. |
| The_Mess01-23-08, 02:26 AM | He got better... I did, indeed, get better. Being a newt ROCKS! I can regenerate limbs, I only have to eat once a week or so. Sure, I have to keep my skin moist, but I live in Florida, where if the humidity falls below 90%, we call it a drought. |
| Tempest Stormwind01-23-08, 02:39 AM | No, wait, that's Freudians. One better. (http://www.pvponline.com/2004/11/29/november-29-2004/) |
| Belabras01-23-08, 03:12 AM | Not that I don't agree on the 3.0 complaints, but it's possible he could have been talking about D20 Psionics. That's multiple ability dependant as well... |
| CrimsonDeath01-23-08, 04:05 AM | One better. (http://www.pvponline.com/2004/11/29/november-29-2004/) I dunno, I kinda like hinging the joke on the use of an alternative definition of "screw in a lightbulb". |
| Ryuu_Tenshi01-23-08, 11:59 AM | I did, indeed, get better. Being a newt ROCKS! I can regenerate limbs, I only have to eat once a week or so. Sure, I have to keep my skin moist, but I live in Florida, where if the humidity falls below 90%, we call it a drought. Hey, did you get to keep your INT score? 'cause you might have something there if you go into Egoist.' (... see what you've done to me, boards? I'm STILL THINKING ABOUT BUILDS.) |
| The_Mess01-23-08, 12:16 PM | I'm typing, aren't I? Do you know any other newts that can type? Of course I kept my INT score! |
| Otakkun01-23-08, 01:16 PM | Just hoping in to say hi to AntiDjinn. Now we only need to get back Psi_SeveredHead and the whole gang would be back and posting. So much nostalgia  |
| AntiDjinn01-23-08, 02:03 PM | ((Otakkun!)). Psi_SeveredHead is still around. Only missing a few of the old ones. Jeez, now I feel old. |
| CrimsonDeath01-23-08, 03:49 PM | I'm typing, aren't I? Do you know any other newts that can type? Of course I kept my INT score! No, but I have met a gecko who can talk. |
| Ryuu_Tenshi01-23-08, 05:49 PM | No, but I have met a gecko who can talk. Pfft, they've just got a guy using Ventriloquism off to the side for those! |
| Tempest Stormwind01-23-08, 07:41 PM | Pfft, they've just got a guy using Ventriloquism off to the side for those! OH SHI-- *hides* Note to self: Ventriloquism lasts longer than Invisibility. AntiDjinn, Otakkun: FWIW, I recall most of the 3e crowd from my lurker days (it took the XPH hitting my FLGS to convince me to register). Seeing as you haven't chased younger punks offa yer lawn with yer stick yet, I doubt you can claim "old" status. (Mind you, after the ordeal that was 3.0 psionics, "veteran" may be more appropriate.) |
| AntiDjinn01-23-08, 08:03 PM | I doubt you can claim "old" status. (Mind you, after the ordeal that was 3.0 psionics, "veteran" may be more appropriate.) How about recovering victim of 3.0, who has found a way to cope with the horror? This thread almost gave me flashbacks. |
| Pezz01-24-08, 09:04 PM | <_< sorry? yeah, i know the book i was using was 3.0, ive ordered the expanded book and am waiting for it to come in. i just a) hadn't read the SRD about psionics (did after reading the first replies though) b) didnt realize that psionics had such a major overhaul between the versions. |
| jbsaff01-24-08, 11:48 PM | <_< sorry? Don't sweat it. You'll find that the majority of people on the Psionics forum: a) Dislike the 3.0 Psionics Handbook, and... b) Are happy to help point folks in the right direction. (Said direction being pretty much "Anywhere away from the 3.0 Psionics Handbook".) ;) |
| Ecalsneerg01-26-08, 06:10 PM | Or the alternative of 'run towards the 3.0 Psionics handbook and set it alight, then run a few feet to watch the flames.' |
| Ryuu_Tenshi01-26-08, 07:23 PM | Or the alternative of 'run towards the 3.0 Psionics handbook and set it alight, then run a few feet to watch the flames.' No, no, what you do is, direct the newbie away to avoid the newbie being tainted, then set it on fire yourself. Preferably with a maximized, overchanneled Energy Ray. |
| CrimsonDeath01-26-08, 08:31 PM | No, no, what you do is, direct the newbie away to avoid the newbie being tainted, then set it on fire yourself. Preferably with a maximized, overchanneled Energy Ray. Ordinarily, I'd recommend Matter Agitation instead, but it has a duration of Concentration, and I don't think anyone wants to think about the PsiHP that long. |
| Lycanthromancer01-28-08, 01:09 PM | No, no, no. Don't set fire to it! You might inhale some! Bury it in a vat of acid 3 miles underground. Or, to torture it endlessly, microcosm it, so it has no choice but to think of itself for eternity! Muahaha...Muahahahahaha... MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! |
