to start, I as reading the extend my lifespan thread and heard about the Grim Psion. looked it up on the mind's eye articles and liked what I saw. looked at subpsionics too while I was at it, but that's secondary.

to cut to the chase, I don't have the 3.0 psionics handbook, so I don't know what encode stone does. is it vital to the class in some way, has the feat been renamed, can it be updated if not, or should I replace it with something else?

I didn't see anything wrong with the tainted construct feat from subpsionics so that shouldn't need changing. but, perhaps the rest could use some looking at?

I was thinking of changing the encode stone requirement to stygian archon (or possibly stygian power?). and change the special requirement to must know the astral construct power.

"Encode Stone" is the old name for "Imprint Stone" (i.e. the feat for creating power stones).

And don't you dare buy the 3.0 psionic handbook. I'll go in person to your house and beat you with it if you do.

That ... book ... sucks (and it's useless as well).

Uhm, Grim Psion, eh?

Well, we now have the necropolitan template (libirs mortis page 115) as a starting point for this, I would add that as a requirement for the prestige class or add it as a class feature for his first level (although it would be a mess to include it into the PrC since getting the template nets you a level loss).

Then I'd focus the whole PrC into getting deeper into undeath and the shadow, gaining the ability to taint your own powers with energy drawn from those two sources; for example granting vile damage and/or insanity side effects to your telepathic powers and so on instead of focusing on the body of the grim psion. I'd still give him the mind construct ability at 10th level though since it's just too neat to discard.

However it's been a long time since I've even tried to make a PrC or class so I'm lost on balance issues ... not much help there, sorry. :(

here are the new entry requirements I have decided are appropriate. the class abilities will be looked at next.

NEW ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
alignment: nongood
skills: Knowledge (psionics) 5 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 5 ranks
feats: imprint stone, stygian archon
manifesting: ability to manifest 4th-level powers
powers known: astral construct (?), any two negative energy powers

I actually don't like the necropolitan template too much (lacks the flavor I so enjoy). though, I wouldn't be against making a prestige class like that later.

ok, so the undeath ability will have the following changes applied: psychometabolism and psychokinesis are unchanged by your undead status.
beyond this, I see nothing else that needs changing for this class.

Familiar with the Taint rules from Heroes of Horror? I think you may be interested in the Subverted Psion (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20051125a).

It's not bad, but not really with the eternal/undead flavor.
